Custom/Hybrid us composites

i need a list of stuff from us composites what ill need exactly for following:

footholds: type of foam and epoxy and how much

the tray: incase its all wet and what to close it up with

may redo the nose what to use for shaping it

and underneath to fill in all the scratches for paint

if you don't know what you need then you probably haven't read enough about how to do the job. I'm not trying to be rude, but installing footholds and possibly refoaming are topics that have been covered extensively. You need to read and read until you're tired of reading and then read some more. By then you'll know exactly what to buy and how to use it. All the info is already here.

Your list of "might do's" would make it next to impossible for someone to write you a shopping list unless you went worst case and overbought on everything.

Guiness is right.. you need to read the stuff so when the time comes to do it, you konw the steps by steps in your head.. especially with the resin, when you have a limited time before it gets hard.. with that being said..

HEres a listing of materials i used and ordered (All this pricing/links/etc is from last year so the $$ may have changed...)

If your just doing footholds, this may be to much material.

All i did was footholds, I have a 1/2 gallon of resin left and 1/2 quart of hardener, which i wont use again. I had ordered 3 yards of fiberglass but only really used 1.5 (laying 2 layers).

IT wound up costing me around 140 shipped as i took out some of the measuring stuff, etc as i had it local.

Fiberglass mat - http://www.uscomposites.com/specialty.html
Use DBM 1208 Biaxial - catalog # FG-120850
Ordered 3 yards @ $8.25/yard

I orderd 3 yards, and it was to much. I have plent left over. Depending on what you plan on doing in the future, you may not need it. Either way 8.25 a yard its cheap.

Epoxy - http://www.uscomposites.com/epoxy.html
Order the 4:1 Fast Cure Kit
1 Gallon Kit resin/1 quart hardener
Catalog # EPOX-63541
$54.00
Again, i ordered the gallon, i think most people have ordered smaller packs. I have about a 1/2 gallon left.

Foam - http://www.uscomposites.com/foam.html
Order the 3LB. Denisty Foam
Order either the 4LB ($18.95) kit
The 4LB is more than plenty for footholds
Catalog #
4LB - # FOAM-0304
I ordered the 4lb density in the (foam-0304) the smallest size is 4 lbs is way plenty

Filler - http://www.uscomposites.com/fillers.html
Use this stuff occasionally for making putty with epoxy. Some use it, some don't.
Order it anyway, it's cheap.
Aerosil-Cabosil - 2 /2 qt
Catalog # FL-AER025
$5.00

Order the Filler! I used it when I glued the holds in to thicken it up so it wouldn't be so runny! this is the stuff u can use to make it "peanut butter consistency"

Measuring cups - http://www.shopmaninc.com/containers.html
Use this to measure as opposed to pumps. Avoid the pumps for Epoxy.
Get the 8 oz. graduated cups (sleeve of 25)
Catalog # CON-C08
$4.50/sleeve

Mix and Measure Buckets - http://www.shopmaninc.com/containers.html
Get Qty. 6 (1qt. containers)
Catalog # CON-MM032
$0.55/each

Stirring Sticks - http://www.shopmaninc.com/containers.html
Catalog # GLV-PS050
$3.50

Roller - http://www.shopmaninc.com/fgrollers.html
For fiberglass smoothing
Economy roller - 3/8" dia, 5" length
Catalog # FR-1215A

I didnt order this as i figured i could brush it.

Brushers - http://www.shopmaninc.com/brushes.html
For brushing on epoxy
Bristle Brushes Wood Handle
1" Wide
Order 10 brushes
Catalog # BR-TA10
$0.60/each

The pint is plenty for one install. As I said, Lowes and HD carry it. I got mine at lowes.

A cheaper and lighter alternative for all that foam is polystyrene. You can get a sheet at Home repo or Lowe's. Use some two pound foam in the gunwhales to lock it all in. I suggest looking at my rn build thread in my sig. Good luck!.

Slickchaos - your post #4 was awesome. Very helpful in getting my shopping list finalized. TYVM.

I'd loved to take the credit for it, but it goes to Carfanatic who provided the list to me when i was looking for help last year.

Im just passing the torch now, so to speak ! :wavey:
