Waterline routing looks messed up

The more I disassemble my recently purchased SJ, the more stuff I find that looks off...

It's a 94 with 61x/61x and a factory b-pipe. I've ridden a few times as have a few of my friends and we haven't had any real problems with it. However, the cooling appears backwards.

Right now the water goes from the pump to the head, then out the exhaust manifold and into the bottom of the pipe, then out the top of the pipe "T-ed" into the stinger and pisser.

On my 750 with a FP it's exactly opposite. It goes from the pump to exhaust manifold, out the head and into the top of the pipe, then from the bottom of the pipe "T-ed" into the stinger and pisser.

Which is really correct? I can see logic in both methods but not sure which is preferred.

for single cooling pump to ex. manifold. Top of head to head pipe (directions say top but a lot of people prefer bottom to keep the coupler cooler), out of head pipe to tee.

Alright that sounds like the way my 750 is. When reassembling the SJ, I'll do that.

The cooling on your Kawi sounds correct. The other one sounds bass-ackwards.

This was a racers trick :wink: we did in the racing days in limited class racing a SN 650 to get more RPM's (by running the exhaust system much hotter) on the top end as the water was heated by the head first, down cylinder, which fed the exhaust manifold then pumped hot water to the headpipe.
The real problem with a setup like this, you needed to run a lot of piston clearance to prevent seizures, so pistons didn't last very long... :headbang:
