WB2 Starter issues

Hello,

Looking for some help!
I was getting the classic click when I hit the start button on my 1997 WB760. Pulled the starter and it was toast. So I replaced my starter and starter solenoid and when I went to start it I hit the start button and the starter ran until I disconnected the battery. So I then took apart the start/stop switch and cleaned it and tested it to make sure it’s working correctly per the manual and was so I tried it again. Now once I hook up the battery the start kicks on instantly. So I double checked the new solenoid is good and it checks out. I’m getting frustrated with it now. Any idea what would be causing the starter to just run it the starter, solenoid and start/stop switch check out as good?

Thank You,
Luke

The only way for that to happen is if the solenoid is faulty and sticks on.

I had that happen to me with a Chinese ebay solenoid

It stuck on
I was woken up in the middle of the night by my b1 trying to start.
Luckily I always switch my fuel off.

I had to cut the red hot battery cable off.

Thanks Racer-J, I did put a brand new starter solenoid from SBT in and it checks out when testing it with a multimeter. But I’ll put the old one back in and see what I get. It’s fairly cheap so I’ll probably just order a new Yamaha one instead of the SBT or any cheaper eBay ones. I’m not super confident that is the fix but I really hope it is since Im out of ideas on what else it could be!

Racer J finally got a new Yamaha Starter solenoid as it was on back order and that was the issue! It appears the brand new one I ordered form SBT was faulty form the factory.

Thanks for the help!
