I'm looking to upgrade the tail lights in my trailers and want to know what is a decent brand these days. I have always trusted Grote but can't seem to find them down here in the US. There's a big variation in price and quite a few choices and I don't want to make a mistake and buy the wrong ones.

Both trailers take the 6" Oval grommet mount lights. I could just simply buy the standard replacement bulbs but I figured I would take the chance and upgrade to LED at the same time. Also kinda curious if it's even worth it to upgrade.

I also see quite a few variations in how many LED's are in each lamp. I'm thinking the 10 LED turn/signal/park is the way to go.

What do you guys use and why? Experiences, good or bad? Opinions?

Right now I'm leaning towards these by Wesbar.

I put the harbor freight kit on my trailer. It was worth the $25 or whatever it cost. It was both rear lights and wiring to go with it. They were the actual submersible boat trailer kit. Had them for 2 year with no issues.

I thought about setting my trailer up so it used the 6" oval lights. I like those because they are protected.
As far as those lights go I'd just find a set on Ebay. I'm sure there are tons of choices on there.

I almost pulled the trigger on LED's when I built up each trailer but figured it was a waste of money considering the standard bulbs tend to last forever. Fast forward to now and here I am with one failed bulb on a trailer that has left the yard twice since new. The bulb is good but the housing inside as fallen apart, I'm sure due to all the sun it sees plus the manufacturer sing cheap parts.

The bulbs on my 10 yr old Triton trailer are still in great condition so maybe I need to see what brand they are and find another set. They just don't make things like they used to.

I just replaced my old style lamps with an LED lamp kit from Walmart. About $50 I think, nice lights, bright as hell, rectangular not squar, bolt into the existing bolt holes, reflectors on the ends, lic lamp built in, with wiring and wiring clips

I have been using these all season. Probably dumped them in salt water a good 50 times already. Exact size replacement for my Triton LXT trailer. Much brighter, can be seen during the day. I always end up replacing lights/wiring/bearings on the trailer every Winter as maintenance

just noticed you have oval style so this doesn't help you much.. but check if optronics makes them. I've had no problem with this brand so far.

Hey guys, here's one thing to take in consideration with led lighting. Sure the actual led's have thousands of hours of life in them, but their weakness is the connection to the circuit board. If water gets in a corrodes the solder joints or leads of the diodes, they can still fail. With a standard bulb fixture, you can usually shine up the contacts and throw another bulb in.

^^ with that being said I am getting real close to finishing this trailer for world finals and I will be using Truck-Lite clear lens LED lights for tail, marker lights. I have both red and amber w/ clear lens. Kinda cool looking, also gonna throw a couple of ECCO LED work lamps on the front mounted high. They put out over 1300 lumens a piece. Food for thought NAPA handles all manufacture's warranties even on the lights

I use $5 tail lights. They last about 3 years. The waterproof ones only last one....some idiot always hits my trailer at the ramps or my wife backs into it with the minivan, then if they have a small leak, they hold all the water in.

I bought expensive lights once...only once.

I may make my own custom lights set back into the steel, my trailer is due for an overhaul this winter.
btw...those triton aluminum trailers are the shiznit.

I ran LEDs on my trailers for about 5 years now and it seems they only last a year at best before they start failing (one or more LED at a time usually). Just switched over to regular bulbs and they have been good so far. I say if you deal with salt water at all, stay with the cheapo bulbs. You can buy 2 or more sets with the money you save over the LEDs. Be sure to unplug the trailer/vehicle wiring connector before you submerge them.

I even just put a new fly 3 jug cn holder up front

I bought the kit from princess auto, not sure if you have them in the states?
all direct replacement units, just plug and play. I think its worth the upgrade for "cool" factor alone. They are crisper and brighter to look at, last 50000hrs and they draw way less amperage which doesnt really make much of a difference anyway. So when people ask me why I upgraded I tell them because LEDs are cool...thats pretty much it. The kits range between 60-100 depending on how many leds were in each unit.
