What happened here?

Stock 701 62t/61x no problems for first 10 rides. Shut off , no spark. Found this Mess. Looks like that large washer went through the stator. Woodruff key good. Stator still tight and attached. We're did that bent washer come from, I don't recognize it.

Grabbed a spare bendix from the shelf and sure enough there was that washer. Pulled the old one off and it was missing, but you could see it was on there at one time. Must have fell off when I changed the starter over the winter. Thanks for the help.

Take a lesson from me, when you replace that stator, don't use the stupid phillips head screws to mount it. Go get some nice allen heads that you can really crank on, and use loctite.

The worst part about those Phillips pan heads (also true with ebox screws) is that everyone uses a #2 bit instead of a #3 like they call for and strips the f*** out of them.

Agreed. We have a large box of ruined ebox screws from butchers with regular #2 phillips!

Impact screw gun works great with #3 bit to loosen and tighten OEM stator and ebox grounding screws, but we sell allen bolt kits for stator or ebox grounding for those that prefer them instead.

I always wash out my stator area when im in there, it helps prevent this.
