what happened to the home page???

damnit... There are no threads on the home page anymore... I like to go there to see new posts

I took it off because it kind of goes against what I want the homepage to be.

I try to think of the homepage as the introduction to our site to someone that has no idea what we are, with things that would interest someone like the calendar, Ronny's pics, The Addiction.

When the page gets too long, it loses that feel and with the latest posts just kind of stuck on the bottom, it felt that way to me.

Do this, logout and take a look at the page from a non-member's point of view. The forums are a big section, the gallery is another, etc.

Now, from a regular member's point of view, you go straight to the forums, right? So why not just have your bookmark set to point there anyway, and if you want to see the latest posts, bookmark the New Posts link http://www.x-h2o.com/search.php?do=getnew and you go straight there.

Or am I way off base here?

Also, the homepage is not meant to be a site navigation page, if you want one of those I can make one, but I'd rather it be something that highlights the features and gets someone interested to take a look around.

Just digging through posts takes someone a long time to get the feel for what a site is about.

Also, having a page that is 30000 pixels high and takes 10 seconds of scrolling to get through is ridiculous.

i use the "new posts" button on the toolbar to quickly see what new posts have been made. the old homepage didn't allow you to see all of the new posts.

I think the home page is like a "Welcome" door mat.
It invites guests into the place, shows them what this place is all about and informs them of what is happening.

The residents just trample the "welcome" mat as they make their way to the forum couch.

Im curious to see how much this affects your traffic. Like many have said. Thats how most navigate these forums. Most dont dig into the topic page like a book. Just recent posts.

I would disagree. There is a big link right on every page called New Posts that gives you the new posts since your last visit.
