Custom/Hybrid What makes the REV hull different than a superjet?

I have had a chance to put quite a few tanks of fuel through this ski now and have two thoughts. First, I absolutely love the way it rides. Second, it feels considerably different than a superjet. Looking at the bottom deck it looks pretty similar, not shortened, doesn't look wider but everybody who rides it agrees that it feels different. It doesn't feel as stable side to side and feels like it rides really light in the water (and launches of tiny waves). I haven't weighed it yet but I can't imagine it is much lighter than a similarly setup RN (poly foamed tray area). So what is different?

you just described the handling perfect. Its not like a sj. There are subtle differences. The rev is wider in the front and the outside bottom edges are radiused. The strakes are a little different too. I love the handling of the rev bottom but it took some getting used to..

yup... sides are angled out at the top (look from the back) and where the bottom and the sides meet there is a nice radius which is what makes it like riding a barrel... i actually went ahead and sharpened/squared off that whole edge the whole length of the ski and it made it handle a sh!tload better

they are slightly lighter than stock, wider at the rear, almost as wide as an sxr, the tray is wider, they are alot more bouyant at the back, the rear tends to pop back up after jumps/stabs etc

they ride alot different than a superjet, they are alot more twitchy, many of my buddies couldnt even stay on mine, this apparently is down to the side rails being so narrow, which if your into hood riding you will struggle on a rev

i found straight away i got alot more air and alot more rotation on stabs, but stability in a straight line was difficult, you literally could steer by shifting your weight from one foot to another

i liked my rev, but i like flat water, i found in surf i struggled and when i jumped waves it went very nose high, vertical in fact, so landings meant a good back slap

i like the REV hull, i only sold mine cos i wanted a hull which was closer to a superjet so i could ride both flatwater and surf, although there are some guys on here who love this hull in the surf, if i had the money or desire to have two skis id have a rev as a second ski

I love the way it rides, can't wait to get it in the surf, I honestly think it will be more fun than my superjet. It seems to respond quicker and slide easier. It makes every superjet that I ride now feel like a dump truck. Plus it makes my little home ported 760 frankenmotor feel like a monster with just a pipe and a carb.

there is actually a little bump or "bulb" on the rocker. That's what makes it pop. That was one of jeffs ideas. They did it on the bob. But instead of .5" or so they went alot bigger.

I was looking at it the other day and thought the same, I couldn't really tell because I didn't have another ski to compare it to but it did looks like there is a slight bulge on the bottom deck.

that radius is what makes it turn so good. if you square that up it will make more like a sj when turning. It will also add a little straight line stability.

The bulge also makes it a little more resistant to pearling. Someone also mentioned that the rev feels more bouyant. It certainly does but this is a trait common to all a/m hulls imo

this is why i cant wait to ride the rok. Jeff is full of great ideas and he has been at this a long time. he has been building and testing his own unique hulls and bottoms for like 10 yrs now, maybe more?

a top loader vs. a stock intake on a REV make it 2 completely different skis......

I rode it for months and months with an agressive toploader and could never find any kind of finesse with it........but a stocker loosened it right up and made it much easier to handle on the face of a wave

He came out with his XJET in 2003 or so. May be been 2004. So, more like 6 years vs 10.

I will give him the award for the most hull designs. XJET-REV-ENVY-ROK - F1Pro (FX Copy).

Nobody else out there has touched on multiple designs. Wamilton has a new one but I do not think any pictures have been posted.

But they were not production though. Not like he was blowing them out by any means. Believe his first one sunk.

His first production parts were Plexiglass Side sponsons.

He was building bottoms/skis long before he started selling x-jets and i would hardly call the f1-pro an fx-1 copy...
