Super Jet What Motor Mods Do I Have? -Pics- Any Good?

I own a stock 91 SN and hoped to buy something with some more bang.DSC07684.jpgDSC07687.jpgDSC07688.jpgDSC07689.jpg

Bought this 93 SN from a young guy who wasn't exactly clear what he had as he bought it as is. Took it for a rip and was very happy with the arm ripping power this motor puts out. It has a Riva groovy extended ride plate, aftermarket impeller and intake grate.

I'm aware the it's a 650 with some modifications but I'm wondering if these are good quality mods and if there's anything I should do or know about them.

I am really surprised that a piped 650 could make such a huge difference!!:laugh2:

Check the cylinders for the 61x marking or the intake plat should say j700

Thanks! I know that it's a 650 the plate says J650 and the lower stamp says 6M6. Not sure where I check the cylinders for 61X. I'm assuming that it's an aftermarket head and perhaps the cylinders have been bored to 701 specs? If that's the case, wouldn't they have been better off just dropping in a 701? I'm super happy but still wondering what I should know about the mods and this motor. :laugh2:Just attached a quick pic of me goofing around.

even if the cylinders were marked 650, it could have been bored over. the cylinders may tell you 700, but still hard to tell without a correct measurement. but from what i've heard, even a 650 with a pipe and milled head is still a turd. more than likely a 701 if its rippin

Cylinders are stamped 6M6 so that's not it. Maybe my 650 just isn't that strong and it makes this machine seem like a real arm ripper.

Agreed, I have read that tricked out 650's still run like turds. I'm not a small or wimpy guy (200 lbs - rugby player), this machine has a lot of jam - so much so that it kicks my ass in no time.

Maybe the combination of after market mods working together? What else could it be?

Have you rode a piped 701? Maybe it just feels fast because you haven't rode anything faster or maybe it is just set up really well and possibly has port work done.

No, sadly I haven't rode a 701 at all. There are none on my lake and they are fairly rare in BC.

We mostly have piped Kawi 550's and a 650. Friends that have tried a 701 and then tried this machine seem to think that the pull is outstanding compared to their memory.

To be honest if a piped 701 is a whole lot more powerful than this, I'm not sure how long I'd be out on the water........ My shoulders are still incredibly sore!!

They do, if they only have bolt-on bs, or, whoever did the cylinder work didn't know what they were doing.

It says 61x on the head, I can see that. 650 heads say 6r7. Its prob a 701. It should say 61x on the intake side of the cylinder at the top.

edit; didnt see you said the cyl was stamped 6m6. Maybe you have the same thing I have? I recently got a 650 with a 701 head, that flat out screams. In havent pulled the head yet, but the compression is stock.

And for the record, I have a stock exhaust 650, 6m6 all around, that is FASTER and hits just as good as my buddies stock 701, all 61x, with a cheater pipe. I was going to make a video this weekend when my new gorpo arrives, since soooooo many people hate on the 650s. I own 2 701 superjets, and no joke I ride this 650 more than the others. It def has something done to it, but its a 650 cylinder and 650 cases for sure. I havent pulled the head because it runs soooo damn good.

Thanks Sparkplug.

It's encouraging to know that you've got a similar setup and seeing impressive power compared to the 701's. With a pipe you might feel what I'm feeling, and getting tired really fast.

So it's not just in my head, the mystery deepens...........

How do you know the cylinders haven't been bored out? And the head isnt milled. Also, just because the pistons are bigger, the compression doesnt necessarily go up. Unless its been measured, i wouldnt bet on it being a 650. Take it apart and measure the bore if you want to know so badly. The cylinder stamp doesn't change when you bore it

The 6m6 cylinder is so much different port wise, that boring them doesnt do much to them. Its the ports that need to be opened. Im no master engine builder, but Ive seen firsthand comparison, and they are tiny.

I fully expect to pull the head and find its been bored, but thats going to have little affect. I had a 650 bored close to 700 with wisecos I pulled out and swapped for a 701 in one of my other skis, and it hits nothing like this ski I just got. Its all in the tuning, porting, and prop. A properly built, identical setup 701 vs 650, the 701 WILL win, but saying 650s are uselss is stupid IMO. If anything they are great engines to tinker with and get a fell for what does what, since they are so cheap.

You should open your top end and electrical box. I wouldn't be surprised you find some goodies if the 'arm ripping' you're getting is as hard as you say it is.

Post a video too!

I've got a 61x 701 on the bench right now.

the first picture is the cases just in front of the starter.

The second two pictures are on the intake side of the cylinder in the middle just behind the carb.

They all say 61x

From my very first post on this topic I've made it clear that my engine is a modified 650. That matter isn't in dispute.

My simple request was for opinions on the mods in the pictures and some reasons why it might be running so well. It's honestly a very powerful setup, but I'm not clear exactly why.

In a perfect world I would have a 701 with a b-pipe and I know that's the better setup. I'm not saying that my 650 can kill your 701, maybe it's just a very good 650.

I'm pretty new to this and just wanted to discuss the mods and maybe get some answers.
