got an old 440 (80 maybe) what is that small black block that the return line goes into and the other small hose comes from? it also has electrical wires going into the box. I tried to find it in my manual only shows the filter. Im guessing it is some kind of restrictor for the return line? anybody know?

I remember that my 87' 550 had one of those things. Not sure what it was for but I bypassed it. I know that the round body 44mm carb had the return line restricted by a fixed hole in the carb body. I am sure someone here knows what that thing was. If not I will ask my mechanic buddy tomorrow when we are hitting the waves behind the General Jackson riverboat. It's not much but it's all we got, consistent 4 footers at a steady pace..

The more I think about it, I think it was some kind of rev limiting device. Just bypass it and don't sweat it. I seem to remember having to bypass mine because it was stopped up, but that was 15 years ago, kinda fuzzy, too many brain cells lost:biggrin:

tom you can tell if its a 38 or 44 by the bolts ontop that hold the flame arrester on. if it has 3 then its a 38, if it had 4 then its a 44.
