Whats the benefit of having the reeds turned 90*? I would assume that they would claim "better flow", but why?

I'm no expert, but it looks like it allows them to put the two bores closer together? Smaller more compact motor.

My guess would be: Bigger reed cages and less turbulence/crank windage effects acting on the petals = better flow.

Got a pic of what the intake looks like bolted on? That's a big piece of the puzzle

It is a little easier to get the gas to flow between the crank wheels than over them. The old Ultra 1200 is set up this way. The very best place for reeds is on the other side of the engine but that arrangement doest fit standups very well.
