What's this trick called?

I use to could do them, pretty cool feeling but sketchy.
Any tips on learning this move? I tried it about twenty times at the lake last weekend and wasn't even close to making progress. I would basically lean over and as soon as my ass touched the water I would get ripped off of the ski. I assume I'm going too slow, putting too much weight in the water, etc. I dunno.... I dont even know where to begin lol

I could do it but not stretch crazy out like Rick Roy could. Like BK said, its get sketchy on that fine line of speed, leaning/turning perfectly, and your hand on the water and not totally face planting and wading up..lol

I used to do what your talking about too, with ass dragging a turn with one hand and other hand in the air. Thats how you had to make those old Kawis turn on the track(body and leg drags).

Here is me in 97' doing one on my 94' Team Butch 750SX ltd.:

BTW - If you havent seen all those 97' WestCoast Finals videos that I have posted up on my youtube channel(thanks for post above@Midlake Crisis) check them out, they are great old skool freestyle!

Sweet video!

Threads like this make me think there is hope for the stand up jet skiing public. The fact that someone on this site actually cares to learn how to ride and turn there ski is amazing. Most want to throw 2 feet in the back and do some back flip/ aerial trick before they learn the basics of control and turning. Rant over....back flips are cool...... in moderation

The Rick Roy video is pretty sick, to bad no one has a VHS haha.. Was everyone ridding like this back then? Is he kinda like the Parks Bonifay (wakeboarding) of jet ski's?

So (I think) I'm getting to the point where I can get to this position. Not fully extended like the first pic but leaned over pretty good with my hand on the water. My problem now though is I can't get back onto the ski to ride it out lol. I basically just do a circle until I fall. Any tricks to getting back on?

When youre falling over your just turn in sharper. When you need to get out of it, turn in pretty hard, almost like your'e going for a slippy slide. In general the key is more speed!

On waterskis we called it a body slide. Get your hand down there.

After watching some of these videos from the 90's, I wish I could've lived through those years and watched the sport progress. Bobby biggs with his "running man" was just hilarious. And these tricks took real skill. I got way more enjoyment out of watching your old blurry vids from 97 than watching Lee Stone hunched over his 4 foot long ski, handlebars mounted up by the nose.. Backflip, backflip, aerial 360, backflip. How about throwing in a Bobby biggs "wango tango" for good measure next time?

I learned to control the throttle better I have fingers in between the lever and throttle, same technique I use when riding backwards ....
