Where to find a good engine rebuilder

Hey all, I live in the Detroit area. I picked up a Yamaha 701, 62T/62T engine over the winter (bone stock except for an ADA head) I want to get it rebuild/freshened up before throwing it in my WB1. I know I could do the majority of the refresh myself (disassembly, changing gaskets etc) but I don’t have the time. I’m looking for recommendations for any shops somewhat close by or even in Michigan to freshen it up for me. New to this hobby, thanks for all your help!

if it aint broke dont fix it :0) , this is done so fast and so cheap if you do it yourself and ( if you know what you are doing ) and put them $$'s to work somewhere else...

Greg Sands in Grand Haven, MI. Since you asked for “in michigan” suggestions. Note that if you’re not boring/honing, and just replacing gaskets, I’m not sure there’s any point sending it out (like others have said). If you’re going to carefully inspect it at the same time, now you gotta know what to look for (short list of major things, I wager). If you’re going to bore/hone, ok, now ship at least the cylinders.

Do you know the compression in each cylinder presently?

I am across the lake over in southern WI. We build MANY Yamaha engines, and would be happy to help. I will say sooner is better than later though as we are very busy, and only going to get busier with spring fast approaching. We offer full rebuilds, and machine shop services if needed. Reach to me at the shop if I can help.

I agree with doing it yourself if you can find a couple hours. These thing are very simple engines. Manuals and specs can be found on this forum. The best way to find info is to google "site:x-h2o.com superjet manual", if you want the manual or replace "superjet manual" with whatever you're looking for. Make sure to type x-h2o instead of x-h2zero.

If your bore is out of spec, send out only the cylinders and new pistons that you want to match with the bore. My last top end refresh was just pistons, rings, wrist pins and bearings. I used a 3 arm hone/deglazer with my drill to freshen up the crosshatching on the cylinder walls. I only did it because I needed a new crank, so did the rest while I had it apart. I managed to get it done on my downtime at work. Engines don't get much more simple than these ones.

Doesn't hurt to get a porting guide from @yamanube if you want to add a bit more power while the cylinders are off.

This is an easy to follow guide on rebuilding the engine. Also a few youtube videos on how to do it:
