Why use 5200 when their is 4200?

It baffles me that people use 5200. I cant stand using that poop, its like water and runs out of everything before it sets. Ive heard of people using it for tubbie installs, pump shoes and so many more things that make me wonder how it even became a thing. I dont even know why you would use such a sealant on tubbies. You may as well glass them in because if you try and remove them your going to destroy the tubbie and probably take gel coat with it.

Now 4200 is nice and thick and sets up much faster. We dont even carry 5200 at our marina. We use 4200 for everything from below water line fasteners on skiffs to threw hull transducers on 60' boats. I still wouldnt use it for a tubbie install though... just saying

O and tech tip of the day, wd-40 wipes 5200 or 4200 away clean and gets it off your hands.

Just ordered a tube of 4200 to try on my GPR to seal up the pump shoe and intake grate.

I use epoxy and milled fiberglass for pump shoes. Mix it up thick but not too dry, you still want it glossy. Coat both the ski and outer pump shoe with the mix and let it all sploge out. Scrap the excess off and then lay wax paper over it all to do a final smoothing. The wax paper will peal right off when cured.

Another fun fact. Keep sealants in the freezer before and after opened. It will last much longer. Just let it warm up before use, get what ya need and throw it back in the freezer. I've kept a tube of 1211 for over a year.

Thats quite impressive actually! Are you just seeing how long it will last or did you just do it to get by?

4200 is less permanent than 5200 so maybe keep some 5200 around for your motor mounts haha

I did it to get by but then when my mounts came this one was still fine and still is! 1 1/2 seasons of the worst I can throw at it!

I now have 3 used OE mounts and 1 other 5200'd ripped OE on the spare shelf.

Ive lifted the ass end of a 20ft boston whaler trying to break the bond of 5200 because some assclown used way to much on the transom bracket. Not only did it take gelcoat with it but an entire layer of glass. It was 800 dollars in glass and gelcoat work before I could put the new engine on.

Sometimes you don't want parts to hold forever.l have cussed several times because someone stuck a piece on with 5200.4200 sounds like it works better in some applications.l also like the idea that it wont run. Thanks

At this point with how awesome it sounds I don't see why anyone would use 4200 haha

It you want something permanent, it should probably be epoxied. Like a pump shoe for instance. 4200 is removable in a sence. Not removable like silicone... But you can work with it.

This was really just a rant lol. I've had to deal with things people should not have 5200'ed
