why UTC -12 ?

was wondering why the site runs on utc -12 which puts it right on the date line. if anything shouldn't the site be in GMT and people viewing from different parts of the world could adjust accordingly just like the aviation world.

not a big deal just curious.

thanks

Straight off the bottom of the page right now: All times are GMT -4. The time now is 08:23 AM.

Where exactly are you seeing UTC? In General Settings in your profile you select GMT +/- hours to get your timezone.

sorry my bad,

first off i wrote utc as a habit given the aviation career..ie coordinated universal time. yes you're correct the bottom of the site states gmt. obviously gmt/utc are the same just different names for it. im my op i was perhaps a bit confusing when i wrote utc then gmt, not that they are different just wondered why i was seeing -12 on the bottom hence wondered why it wouldnt be at exact gmt time and let viewers adjust.

which is exactly what you did when you pointed out that said adjustment lays in my profile set up preferences...as my mom always said "if you open your eyes you'll find things much quicker" lol

thanks for pointing me in the right direction...problem solved ;-)

I posted, checked something, edited my post, but it made a duplicate, so I deleted the first I guess.

My bad, I'll be more careful in the future.
