Wife needs a bike. Build or buy on a budget.

Title pretty much sums it up. Wife wants to go on neighborhood rides, etc. with my son and I. Thought about a $99 POS (or insert favorite cheap bike), but might be able to build a decent lightweight hardtail if I find some of the basics for cheap. I even considdered a Walgoose 29er, in case she bails on the whole excersice thing. That way I'll have a somewhat decent starting point to build an acceptable 29er trail bike.

Anyone have some spare MTB parts laying around??
