Will freestyling become a 'thing of the past"?

Theory:

Across the board, (mopeds, motorcycles, and jet ski's) 2 strokes can no longer be imported. So, the 4 stroke will become the only engine available for standups. But because of the weight, and water ingestion issues, who is going (able) to take these below the waterline?

Conclusion:

10 years from now, parts for 2 strokes will run out. Man'f will not tool up to make parts.

Sad, thanx to the EPA, the sport of frestyle will become history.:Flush:

The Penguin

triple secret probation
with waterdawg and others starting to carve out CNC cases - I don't think you'll see that happen.

look how long the cars have been running in Cuba. just cause the supply of new parts ends - doesn't mean we can't adapt and make the best of what is available.

Samba, what a depressing first post!
With a/m companies coming in for hulls, engines, etc
there will be enough toys and spare parts at least for our lifetime
after that . . . .well . . . who cares:bigok:

There will just be American made 2 stroke motors that we can drop in... by Waterdawg, TeamScream, Lamey...

They allready make aftermarket cyllinders, cranks, pistons, heads, carbs, flywheels etc....all they need to make are cases.

Nobody will EVER freestyle a 4 stroke.

Just the messenger.

Didn't mean to be depressing, actually I'm am an optimist.

By all means, the freestyling is by far the most creative use of 'water' for any vehicle [on the water], towed or powered.

What pisses me off is the man'f ignored the writing on the wall. They could have come up w/ solutions before EPA got their hooks into it.

:eek:uttahere:

you sure about that? I disagree - I think with a little R&D it is completely possible

Yep just like nobody will ever race a fourstroke in MX,I have heard all this before, how many two strokes you see in MX these days? It can be done, the way I see it the engine is not the problem, keeping water out of the hull to start with is the problem, the air intake systems and hood sealing systems on Jetskis are all old antiquated designs, thats where the the technology will have to improve at,keeping the water out of the hull!

What 4 stroke would give me the instant snap brap we all crave.

If you are looking for bottom end fourstrokes have it in spades. It all depends on how the cam profile, compression and timing are set up ,just as on a two stroke its all about port timing, compression and timing.I was eating Crs,Yz.s,KX's,IT's,and several other makes lunch on the hare scramble circuit many years back with a Honda XR200 twin shocker,I don't know the meaning of it can't be done.

There is still nobody riding thumpers in FMX though....

And I'd like to see ANYONE ride it in saltwater. :lmao:

With a completely sealed engine compartment the saltwater would probably be less of a problem than you would think....an electric motor has no intake :Banane09:

lol. Yea it would have to be sealed and then sealed again and then sealed inside of a seal inside the core of the hull. Then incompletely waterproof motor compartment. RIP IT!

I have no doubt it could be done.

Here is where I would start,on the hood air inlet and outlet put a couple of vacuum doors on it,if its four stroke the engine already creates the vacuum, all you need is a small plastic or carbon fiber storage container to hold a vacuum reserve, then we get to the tricky part you need a solenoid to activate the doors and a sensor that senses when the ski is past horizontal plane position, the split second the ski goes over so many degrees from horizontal plane the doors close, you don't need a lot of air for the engine since at that point the throttle is already off.Ski goes back to horizontal plane doors go open and back off you go.All the components could easily be hidden in the hood and made of lightweight materials for weight savings, you would have one vacuum line to disconnect when taking off the hood, that's it clean and simple and efficient.

Xgames 14 had a freestyle rider on a Honda CRF250R Four stroke. The day is coming and Yamaha can make it work. I feel fairly confident that Yamaha has already been working on this for a few years now.

I bet you Yamaha isn't going to create a whole new engine just to go into a stand up jet ski....
