Yes, I know Windows 8 blows.

However, if you are in a situation where you have XP on a machine and want to upgrade the OS for extremely cheap, Windows 8 might look better.

Right now, you can go to Microsoft and request a promo code for Windows 8 Pro by just filling out fields that says you bought a computer with XP within the last 6 months. They email you a promo code. Then you use that code to upgrade, via the internet, for $16.02 (which includes the taxes for me).

Yes, I'd rather be using Windows 7; however, for $14.99 for an upgrade version of 8, I'll deal with it.

Is Win8 really considered to be that bad? I've been using it for a couple of weeks on a laptop and have zero complaints. Have to get used to a slightly different interface, but that's it.

I love it so far (Full Win 8 64bit only IMO!)...I prefer a classic shell on it though because I don't have touch screen.

It is basically windows 7 with touchscreen perfected and "apps" instead of programs...lol...

The cool thing with the classic shell app is if you ever get a nice touch screen 27" monitor ($$ right now!) you can always go back to Windows 8 tiles/touch.

It feels sick on a Asus 14" Ultrabook or a 11.4" Samsung tablet!

The touchscreen comes really naturally on a ultrabook IMO...I didn't think it would but it does for sure...

That's a dang good price for 8.

Meh. I get it for free (through school)
Granted, it was installed on the (new) laptop but it was only the home version and I needed to reinstall everything on a SDD that replaced standard 5400rpm drive.
Since new laptops don't come with decent discs anymore, I pulled down the pro 64 bit version instead.

I guess I should have said the interface blows if you aren't using it on a tablet. I guess once I have time to get used to it and modify it, I should be good.

Worst case: You push one button on the keyboard to go to the standard desktop.
Or you set it up to be without the tile setup.

What's the problem?

PS: I am not using it, either.

Bought the wife a new Laptop a few months back. Told HP to kiss my ass!!!!!! picked up a nice little Samsung the day 8 came out. She is starting to understand it, me, Confuses the hell out of me, but I really rarely use it. Just grab my Kindle Fire or my Iphone when I at home and want to get on the web.

Thinking ahead the Windows 8 upgrade promotions end soon. If you have an XP machine that has the horsepower this might be a good idea. When they quit providing security updates for XP in April 2014 you won't want XP exposed to the internet. If it is still running XP without security updates it will become a virus breeding lab. Of course you could always put Linux on it then.
