What are your opinions on it? the computer I have is new and it is Windows Vista premium ready. Which means I bought it right before they were intalling it in the computers but I can send them a receipt for the comp. and my address and they will send me windows vista free.

I already sent them my stuff to get the program free but my question is, Should I intall it? Ive read a few places that all my programs probley wont run on vista and it will cause more problems than its worth. I know close to nothing about computers, what should I do? just keep xp and sell the vista program?

I would strongly suggest you opt not to load it because you stated you're not very computer savy. Currently many hardware and software programs aren't compatible or supported by vista. Although there are many work arounds for various issues, it could be tough for you to get everything working. I myself installed this on my father's machine and it took the better part of a week or more to get all the hardware and software issues fixed. It's quite nice now that it's installed, but it did have it's heartache during the install process. Now on the other hand, we installed this on my brother's machine, and he didn't have half the issues that my father did. For some reason, the hardware on his machine is supported much more so than my fathers. I have opted to install this at a later time on my own machine because I just got done reformatting my laptop this past month. Good luck with whatever you do.

My parents just bought a computer with Vista allready loaded. Its a f'n mess. They can't use their scanner/printer because they are not brand new and vista ready.

It's gonna be a nightmare for a while. I'll agree with Matt. I'm not putting it on my computer until there are some upgrades to fix all the ******** ups. I am sure there will be thousands.

One thing that sucks is that you can't buy a low or mid end and still get XP. Check out Dell and HP websites. Unless you are into spending like $1200 you are screwed vista-ly.

IT guys at work say to wait a little while. If you are just surfing the web it no biggie , but if you are using other software check first.

Vista now is the same thing as XP in its infancy. Immature and without patches. However, no matter how sh**** it may seem, we will all be running it within 4 years, XP is gonna get phased out just like 98SE before it, they will make you. I usually wait a year if I can before switchin OS's. Unless I need a new computer, I dont see any big developements that make me want to upgrade (same as XP).

I really liked Vista's interface. But had a couple problems with hardware and software compatibility. XP seems to run more stable but that could be influenced by said issues :439: I say backup your data and upgrade when you get the disc. You don't have much to lose with a new computer :cool2:

thanks mark this is kinda my thinking. I would rather do it now than later down the road when I have alot of things I wont want to lose

But I have heard much more bad than good, have no complaints with xp, and all the computer tech guys say dont do it. I dont think Im going to upgrade hugely due to the fact that I am not computer savy in any way.

Ok. We just recieved a laptop with Vista loaded and after it finally booted up and I control alt deleted out of what appears to be Compaqs forced internet sign up BS.

Anyway the first thing I looked for is the RUN to eliminate services and start up.

You just type in "run" in the little search bar that is now in Vistas start menu.

Honestly, if I can still get to MSCONFIG and SERVICES.MSC it can't be that bad.

I'll play with it tonight.

I just got this Toshiba laptop with Vista2 days ago, so far no problems at all, so far....

I have installed a few programs and they work fine, I would like to find a image resizer for Vista though.
