Working with carbon fiber

I bought some carbon fiber for reinforcement, 3K 2x2 twill...

Anyway, this stuff slides around when you handle it. How do you lay this stuff so there are no gaps in the CF (finger tip size gaps in the fabric).

That is not the concern, when you hold it and move it around your fingers can poke through. Basically the weave is not that tight if that makes sense...

Fuuk it, it's more bling than anything... anyone need some carbon?

If you sew it though wouldnt it be tight so you wouldnt have that problem?

OK, just though of a good example...

Chinese Finger Trap... Compress it and it is tight, pull and it opens up.
(do not confuse with removing your finger... just think what the actual finger trap weave is like).

Carbon Fiber

Orange is right that twill does tend to fall apart but in other ways it's easier to work with as it drapes and conforms alot better than plain weave.
The other thing to remember is that most weaves are only strong in 2 directions this must be taken into account and the direction altered accordingly with subsequent layers.
The 1k, 2k etc is the toe size and not the weight ,for example you can have a 200g 12K toe size sheet of Carbon. The weight is the weight of the carbon per meter squared. 200g meter sq carbon is approx .2 of a mm thick were as a 380g is approx .38 of a mm thick.

Try not to move it around and lay it right the first time. Once it's wet it stays pretty good. It helps if you are laying it over a dark color or a second layers. I've never sewn the edges, I just deal with sh!tty edges if I have to.

It will not help the issue you are asking about (that is simple feness) but definateley tape where you cut and leave half the tape on the side you are using. Once you have it wetted out and tapped down in place then remove the tape (while tape is also wet) and tap edges down gentley. This will avoid nasty looking edges.
