Would this work for a hitch hauler?

Well I can't get the link to work. Northern Tool has a cargo carrier on sale for $40

I took some heat on this forum for building a carrier from a toolbox rack from Tractor Supply, but used it for over a year & never had a problem with it. I sold it with the ski & the new owner has not had any issues with it either. Says it's rated for 250 lbs. And I added some reinforcement to it & used it for hundreds of miles without any issues. It lists at $80 & goes on sale every now & then. Other guys on PWCT also have used it without any problems.

A couple of pics of it here

I'd hate to see my ski bouncing down the highway after hitting an expansion joint/dip in the road. Spend the extra money on something you can trust. Jet lift or the other haulers available from a seller on the x are wayy safer. I wouldn't put my ski on half the home built haulers out there

I can relate to that. But the rack I built was pretty sturdy. I could see both ends of the ski in the mirror & it was amazingly solid.

Since then I spent the money on a nicer one & frankly it is not any more solid. It is a bit heavier gauge steel & is rated to tow behind it but I have yet to do that yet.

i used one of those 50$ carriers and after a year everything rusted and it started to bend. I bought a nice one after seeing it bend.

I did the same thing.

The problem was the air flow was blocked so much that the truck ran pretty warm. It never overheated, but I wasn't going up any big hills either.

I used a harbor freight steel hitch carrier for years. At one point I used 2x4 bolted on. At another point I used 2x6 bunks and 2x4 cross members that were notched out that I called my lincoln loader (like lincoln logs) and didn't even bolt them down. It's about 10 miles to the lake. None of them were an issue.

Back then I had a $800 X2. If you have a ski worth anything it's worth the extra $200 for a real rack.

Now I have a Versa-haul hitch hauler that accepts a 2" receiver so I also pull a trailer. Couldn't be happier with the product. It's expensive compared to other brands so it's only best if you need to pull a trailer. Also have to consider tongue weight. The trailer I am pulling is very light.

DONT DO IT those norther tool toolbox holders are reated for 250lbs of STATIC weight not DYNAMIC weight. I have been building carriers for approx 9 years now and my most economical version is under $200 with a LIFETIME WARRANTY. $195 is nothing to spend for a carrier that is engineered and designed to do what you are trying to do . Unless you wanna see you ski skid across lanes of traffic on the way to your destination. And futhermore if anyone uses the Harbor Freight cargo basket you are absolutely asking for an issue . They are made from .090 wall square tubing.. just as a reference point ... my STANDARD basic carrier is made with .250 wall ! I implore you to purchase a quality hitch carrier ( even if its not from me )

Yes sir VersaHauls are expensive and i believe there is no warranty . We also carry a unit that has a 2" class 3 receiver built into the rear of it for towing and when you compare the Versahaul at $500.00 to the cost of our EZ-SKI V2 at $250 with a lifetime warranty ... its kinda difficult to argue. Being that you already have a Versahaul you are set .. however for those out there interested in a quality proven carrier for a great price with a warranty please give EZ-SKI a look. Ezskiboat2.jpg
