If water was leaking into the crankcase it would not be running, one drop of water is all it takes to ground out a spark plug so it will not fire!Do this ,crank it up with the hood closed and the unit out of the water, now rev it to the moon a couple of times, shut it off ,open the hood and see if there is any smoke in there.if there is it has an exhaust leak, probably at one of the gaskets at the back of the engine.

Next time it does that open the gas cap and see if it straightens out,it could be a bad check valve on the fuel tank vent, there are many things it could be.

So now you know why it was for sale!!!! Surprise Surprise. I always try to take a used ski to the lake and ride it first before I buy one. I know it is not always practical.

It sounds like a exhaust leak or a gas vent issue.

Good luck.

My 750SX had this exact same problem ran like a champ out of the water even ran great hooked up to a flush, but as soon as it hit the water it would hardly run sometimes not at all. My problem ended up being broken reeds from water ingestion. Hope that helps you out troy
