X2 throttle... **TWISTED**

Well guys - I decided to go outside the box; I installed a twist throttle on the X2. I've ridden dirt bikes since I was 4, and I missed the feeling. I haven't seen anyone else doing it, so figured I'd give it a whirl. I'll let you know how it goes....

good luck. there is a reason you haven't seen it.

there should be no real reason not to run it on an x2... might be a drag with deep water mounting, or shifting your weight forward to sub, or riding you ski reverse if thats what your into... But i ride bikes aswell and i couldnt really see any real dissadvantages otherwise, personally i wouldent do it for the same reason you woudlent put a thumb throttle on your bike, But i guess its what you get use to, nothing wrong with a finger trigger bud, save you the effort.

Hopefully it works out. Idk the mechanics of a twist but corrosion may be a concern later on possibly? Practicality probably wont be an issue.. If bikes didn't have a clutch and brake level taking the handlebars up, they would probably have a throttle lever too.. So I would assume its interchangeable for comfort.

run a lanyard for sure, ironically Marc Sickerling from Germany runs a thumb throttle on his carbon superjet.

i think twist throttles are meant for vehicles that have gears. on bikes you shift and that reduces the mount of throttle or "twist" you have to hold to keep a speed. on skis that have direct drive like they do, i feel it would just be a annoying position to keep your had at. it would be like twisting the throttle almost max and holding it when cruising. just my 2 cents

honestly, it is a bad idea, your boddy moves all over, with that your hand will do, you will not be able to hold the throttle in one place, imagine a grip that is loose and spinning. You try and hold on but your grip keeps moving.

But, try it.

Sorry guys - I don't come to this site often.

The verdict is in - - - and I LOVED it. I think it's perfect on the X2. I got a lot of use out of it this weekend. We did inland lake riding, which I tried deep water starts, and was able to sub and do everything as normal. Then we went to Lake Huron, and did some big water riding. I felt as if I actually had more control with the twist throttle, and I didn't get forearm pump from using the trigger.

Overall I am very satisfied. My buddy also rode it and really liked it. I'd recommend it on an X2

And motocross and atvs don't move you all over the place? Those damn whoops are harder with a thumb throttle than they are with a twist.. Yes holding a constant throttle would be difficult in poor water conditions, but then again, youd still receive the same results because poor water conditions make any type of constant speed difficult. I think the difficulty here is overrated. Twist throttles do give you plenty of control.

Stand ups may not work as well because of the change of angles you face with the pole..(But even still, the German runs one..) X2 steering and throttle will always be at that height..

I saw it is only water, wear a lanyard and try it.

I will say this though... it will take some getting used to it. One of the hardest crashes I ever had was when I switched from a thumb to a twist on an ATV. I was so used to the thumb, I pulled a Doug Henry and launched into a tree. Anyone ever see the Doug Henry Budds Creek jump where he accidently pinned the twist throttle on his works CR250 and leaped down a freaking huge hill?

to tell you the truth, the twist throttle felt right to me on the X2. The finger throttle took time getting use to...

I like finger throttles, I like thumbs, and I like twists. I wouldn't mind trying one on an X2 myself. I definetly think one wouldn't work on a stand up being the angle of the pole constantly changes as it bounces up and down.

One thing that I hated about a friend's SJ was that he had straight bars and his finger throttle sticking up. It gave me arm pump. I like 4 deg bars and the finger throttle angles down a hair.

Doug Henry is the man still. Such a shame that a great rider/person got hurt as many times as he did and finally got paralized. He was one of the nicest MX stars I ever met. He signed autographs in the rain for half an hour for us once. McGrath didn't even look our way when we asked.

McGrath is a perfect Example of a Dick Superstar.I rode alot of 3 wheeler's and a thumb throttle was the only way to go! I also ride alot of motorcycles and a twist is the only way to go on them. I can imagine a twist on an x-2 wouldn't be to bad when up but I think my fat ass would struggle with deep water start's , Good Luck. like X2Guy said trying new thing's is the X-2 way
