XS 900SS What impeller for freestyle? Help

Hey guys
I am running a Backie chan with the following specs
Glass hull
Xscream 900ss
B pipe
Msd Enhancer
144mm pump
12/18 solas

Anyways I am looking to change the prop out of my ski, and was curious what pitch everyone has been running on their skis with the 900ss

Thanks!

Question gets asked a lot lately. In an OEM pump I would run a hooker 9/15 cut back 5mm.

Preferably setback 148 or 155 mag.

148 - 7/15 cutback 5 skat
155 - 6/12 skat

144 - 11/17 hooker cut back 5.
Or 13/18 skat cut back 5

That motor will work good with any of those impellers, as long as the motor is tuned correctly etc. Then your need to do some fine tuning on the pump, ie bore nozzle, study cone, impeller spacing etc to get it dialed in for what your trying to do.

Hey guys sorry for the late reply
So I dove more into this

Here is my pump set up
144 stock pump
12/18 solas prop big hub
pump stuffer and freestyle cone
Reduction nozzle looks stock but different, the fins are straight, does not look bored out
62t steer nozzle
Stator veins are super beat up, and prop has some good dings on it
I am getting low water pressure out of my pissers too so I think my pump is just cavitating

Explain the cavitating more? I’d say at least hooker 9/15 in 144 if not 10/16. I think you are kinda getting varying opinions based on riding style. Riding condition surf/flat and speed into your jump:cool: ......watch Michael ratti for instance

Isn’t that like the 3rd time you’ve answered this guy on FB...? Lol

I'm surprised that there are people recommending a 9/15 hooker. Same impeller with an xscream 900ss as a bone stock 701?

With the beat up stator on that pump, it seems like you should at the very least get a good condition stock stator (very low cost) or even better a solas mag, or an oem 155. (or set back mag if you want to spend the dollars)

I have a backie chan that I tried both a solas mag 144 and an oem 155 behind a very mild 760 last year. My testing was not extensive, but I thought the oem 155 was better. I'm sticking with the oem 155 on my ski. I had a 6/12 with my 760, I would think your 900 should be able to pull something a little steeper than that, 7/14 ish, but I did have a bored nozzle so maybe with a stock nozzle the 6/12 might be spot on. (and maybe mine was too steep and I just couldn't tell)

I'd be listening to Yami-Rider. Those numbers look right to me.

I'm not an expert, but that is my experience and opinion.

those veins are not very beat up at all and you aint going to notice any performance loss with those tiny dings and chip.
if you think that's beat up, you may also be wrong about the damage to the prop.
I don't think any prop /pump combo is going to help that heavy hulls freestyle ability and that Bpipe on there aint helping motor performance.
like I said before, 900ss is a top end motor. it don't create grunt off the bottom.
you got a bunch of mismatched stuff, not best for freestyle and you are asking for the magic pill solution and a magic prop number.
it aint going to happen.

A very helpful post by a guy who knows everything. I pay close attention to what people say when they know everything and offer helpful advice.

Surprised me too. I tested a stack of impellers last summer on my XS 900Ss Chan. A 10/16 hooker was too tall for me. Idk. Just wouldn't rev out. Couldn't combo. I ended up with nearly the same prop as the Jetmaniac 754cc I previously had. I prefer a c75 in a mag (or stuffed) pump. OP said "what prop for my pump" and he gets "skat mag 148, 155"... reminds me of a recent thread about a $10k truck and effin geniuses show up saying "Ford Raptor is the best"... well no sh!+ sherlock! You're telling me a 60k truck is better than a 10k truck? Fml.

Another question to the OP, who built the motor, ie did xscream port the cases or was it your uncle joy, that will make a difference in how it runs. Some engines make power more then other, it all in the setup.

I'm interested in what you prefer about the c75 over the hooker in the mag pump. Interesting info.

I thought hooker was designed for oem 6 vein pump. That’s what op has not a mag pump.

Hooker is a large hub. Would be better suited for a mag. OP has a pump stuffer, so small hub would not fit, unless he removes the stuffer.

Set back, and a large hub design that works with your stock 144mm pump, Skat Magnum, or Solas 12 vane stator, this impeller will get you max airtime! Right from impellor pros...... ditch the stuffer keep your 144 and get a hooker prop. Hooker was my fav prop in stock 144 pumps 6 years ago.
