yamaha steering cable differences

Wondering if somone can help me out here. I have a 2001 sj, and i bought a ac pole for it probly 5-6 years ago. At the time i remember having to cut the pole end of the steering cable 1.5" because from the cable clamp to the steering pivot was 1.5" shorter. No big deal i used a tubing cutter and a die nut to do the job. Its worked fine like that for years. Anyways i stripped the ski down last winter and have slowly been refinishing and rebuilding it and it could really use a new steering cable...so my question is:

do i possibly have a pole for an 08+ sj and thats why its shorter? and if so, can i just buy a 08+ steering cable this time and it still work with my 01 hull? worst case ill just mod a 96-07 cable like i had but if i didnt have to that would be great. thanks for any insight

Not sure if AC was even making poles for the 08-up SJ, but sounds like yours is shorter than normal at the top. I would get the 96-07 cable and move the attachment point on the pole if needed to make it work. It makes the turning so much better with the longer throw cable. We have a cable mount bracket if needed.

But to answer your question, the 08-up cable will work on your ski if the top fits your pole.

Could very well be an fx-1 pole. I bought it used being told it was a -4 superjet pole. It was infact around 4'' shorter overall then my rn pole so it is very possible its just a -2 fx-1 pole which makes more sense. I may stick with the 96-07 style cable and see if i cant make a bracket to mount it properly without cutting the end again.

Thanks guys

I have a very low hour 08’-up cable for sale if you need. $85 shipped. Was removed from a 2014 Superjet after 5-10 hours runs time.
