Super Jet you know what they say...once you go black....

....you wish you'd gone blue. I've had my black 2013 SJ out to the lake about 10 times. I've always traveled with a cover on it hoping to protect the black paint from surface scratches from rocks/debris etc. I think i ended up doing the opposite. Now every square inch of the ski is covered in swirly surface scratches that reflect sunlight like a disco ball. i can only assume they are from the cover since nothing else has touched the paint above the bumpers. this black paint sure is hard to keep looking new...

My question to you all is what do you guys running black skis (since this color seems to be harder to maintain) think is the lesser of two evils? An exposed ski that may catch an occasional pebble, or a ski covered with a cover that seems to be made out of an abrasive material? also, to address my anal retentive issues, do you think a fresh coat of wax will hide these imperfections or should i take it to a body shop to have them buff it at the end of the season?

Have you tried viniger? Also there is a product called 'pink n' glaze' available at auto body supply places that takes out buffing swirls in paint. Might be worth a try?

still won't stop the problem... you'd need something that will absorb any dust or anything on the surface(microfiber, felt, or such)(as mentioned beach towel under cover)... best thing to do, not drive with cover on... to remove any swirls on the paint, well, wax it is the simple solution, I'm told(never cared to look into it) turtle wax makes a black specific wax that works well(not sure what it's called)... also as swapmeet said, vinegar might do the trick as will a good quality glaze... but ultimately wax it with a good wax... black sucks to maintain.. but as cheap as the factory paint is, I wouldn't waste much time worrying about it... best thing you could do is get a clear coat over it...

I thought it was common knowledge to never ever use a cover during trailer transport. The wind beats it back and forth against the hull finish, essentially like sandpaper.

I use Maguiar's NXT 2.0 on mine and have no scratches or swirl marks. Nothing aside from idiot marks. I'll wax it every 5 or so rides or if it's raining and I'm bored or just because. Plain old applicator pad to put it on and Buffer with a wool pad set on low to get it off. I prefer the black over the blue or the white of my old SN.
