@Jr. How many cast PVs did they make? Seems like the transition to billet made the power valve cylinders much more prevalent

Good question? But quite a few! They were private labeled off R&D, Riva, besides DASA
very popular Mod class race motors back in the day. ( sport, runabout, as well as standup classes) Most were sub 800cc due to class rules. several stroke configurations. Both PV & NPV There was even a triple version for the pro mod runabouts. you dont hear much about them today, due to them mostly being smaller CC.
look at the Pic in my avatar. Think there were 12 in that picture? All on the bench awaiting porting. This was right about 1998-1999?

It’s funny that no one wants them cuz they are smaller cc. Because that’s one of the primary reasons I want one. Thing I’ve noticed along my search is there are a few out there but they have been In use for some time and either need way more work then they are worry to get up and going, or a lot stroke.

Just needs a little work...20210205_173257.jpg

my memory ain’t what it used to be....
Did they run these old cast power valves with b pipes? I think they had to grind the mani to clear the pv? Did it mainly improve mid or did it also help top? Hope you find one.

They were ran in several configurations. Yes, B pipes were used, and the manifold / Headpipes had to be clearanced for the PV’s. The factory teams mainly all used custom built Dry pipes. This led the way for companies like FPP , Coffmans, and Speedworx to develop their own versions of dry pipes. Someplace late 90’s when the cyl started to be used for freeride. The B pipe was king. The dry pipes didnt withstand the hard landings, and broke often. Modding the B manifold and headpipes, became part of every cyl build. The low profile PV caps came out, Billet cyls replaced the cast, and the Motors kept getting bigger and bigger.

The Idea of the PV is to control the powerband. The longer the Guillotine stayed down, the better bottom end.
as it moves up into the roof of the port, the powerband transfers into higher rpm ranges. This is a main tuning point in many motors, to meet a riders desired powerband. Please know, the PV is only part of the Tuning puzzle.
a lot more goes into it! However, It certainly has a major effect in an engines overall performance.

For what it's worth I'm pretty sure DASA makes or at least made a stock stroke 771cc version of the billet top end. Probably a sweet little motor, but I have no idea.

The Speedworx pipes were the closest pipe to the race pipes that KHI Produced (Team Kawasaki) under Darren Hedlund. He became part of Speedwerx (Hot Seat Performance) for many years. He now works for Polaris Ind. as an employee or consultant. He and Baxter are the kings of the dry pipe designs!!!!!!

Just what the base cylinder starts out with at 85mm bore. I have older version (Original) of the Billet cylinder that Jr. originally built in Non PV. running Domed Pistons instead of the Flat Top pistons with 6mm stroker crank.

76mm Stroke (+8) and 81mm Bore. 783cc - Just under the 785cc mod rule

I wish this never changed!

I love the old cast cylindners

Looking for a cast pv motor or cylinder with old school seadoo valve. Would consider a non pv as well. 4 mil stroke and under. Cash in hand
have cast lamey/r&d with old school pv. 4 or 5mm stroker. complete ready to run with 48 novis,.ada head and vilder ignition. built by chris who was machinist for wdk a few years back.
