What’s the best freeride ski?

I’m in the market for a freeride hull and am unsure of what to get or look for. I’m in Daytona beach and ride surf often but I prefer to carve around more than catch big air (that’s for my blaster). I’m currently riding a 99 and a 13 sj both have full bolt ons and engine work (willing to partially trade) and have only ever ridden a gen 2 bob which I didn’t like, an FV pro which I do like but want something more similar to my superjet and a rockered blaster that I absolutely hated. From my research I’m mainly looking for an FR-2, XFR, superfreak badass, or a fv pro tigercraft. It’s a lot of money and I’m new to the sport so I figured I’d get some advice from some old heads before pulling the trigger on something and not liking it. (I get this is very opinion based, mainly asking for anyones experices with skis good/bad)

The fv is definitely not a surf ski. The v2, v3 are great all around skis and the sv1 as well. Sv pro is heavier and more of a big wave ski. The badass was originally designed as a surf/freestyle type hull depending on the length. There were many different lengths made from -2 to -9. -4.3 is what I have and is probably best all around length. Ride plate length also will affect handling as well. The 4.3 rides similar to the sv1 and v3. My riding buddies all have the v2, v3 and sv1. I did ride a sv pro once and it was also a great riding ski. Carved awesome but was a little heavy for lake riding. In the surf it is fantastic. The biggest downside to the badass is that they land hard. I haven't experienced that yet because I haven't ridden it in surf yet bur will Sunday. What little tray time I have on it I absolutely love it. I don't think you'll go wrong with any of those hulls. The edge is also a great riding hull that would do well with the type of riding you do. I took a gamble getting my freak as I had never ridden one before buying it but I'm glad I did. I heard they ride amazing and they were definitely right. I came off a rockered, shortened-4 superjet. It also rode great just heavy.

Stance thread passion is even spilling into here.

Surf guys will usually let you ride their ski, I’d try as many as you can and see what feels good to you.

Superjet’s are a pretty awesome surf ski, especially when it comes to carving turns.

Tiger craft SV1 was one of my favorite handling surf skis. SV pro felt like it didn’t carve as well. I also like how Krash Predators handle. Edges are the only rickters I’ve tried and I think they are good also.

I've rode a fr2 and xfr in the surf extensively. If your surf is a true 6 foot or smaller. I'd get a xfr. If it's bigger. I'd get the evo. The fr2 evo is pretty well agreed upon as one of, if not the, best surf hull to date.

Rickter hulls are the best. Strongest. With the most money put into their development. 9/10 rickter riders, buy them again. Or keep them forever.

Good to know. From what I’m hearing I’m narrowed down to an xfr or a superfreak badass

I keep thinking of selling my Edge, dont ride it enough to justify the expense I have in it........ Then I go ride surf and change my mind (I ride lakes 90% of the time. Have to travel 8 hours 1 way for good surf- Hugo).

The sv1 is also a great all around ski. A buddy has one with a basic ported 61x with matching parts and he rides the absolute crap out of that thing. He can flip it off a boat wake without much issue either. He had a sv pro before that and he said it was a lot of work to flip it in the surf with a big bore setup. The sv1 is lighter and shorter and rides more like the freak. With a 701 I'd look for a sv1, or a freak possibly even a xfr.
