really? crap.

I have another pump that I need for my build. So I wanted to rob the shaft off of it and put the new one on that pump.

What's the procedure? Take it to a dealer?

No idea, haven't done that one yet. Mine has gear oil in it and runs smooth as silk, I think it was an old racers trick to reduce friction.

I pounded the old one out with a hammer and some blocks of wood but you will need to press the new one in .

With a spline that bad.... you'll need to replace the mid shaft as well! I have seen some people do it with a hammer, but bearings won't last very long if you do. Do it right and use a simple press, any motorcycle or automotive shop should have one if they don't, not a very good shop!

would this failure be due to misalignment? or just age?

More than likely just worn out from age and maybe not removing the pump once a season and re-greasing with a waterproof grease. (I like to use Bel-Ray waterproof grease)

its kinda a bitch so replace the bearings while you got it apart!
