New Bike... Now For Sale $3650

Picked up my new bike today. I got a really good deal on a 2009 YZ250f carry over. It will be getting an Athena 290cc kit soon. I'll post up more pictures as the build starts.

Nice bike. Did you complete the break-ion on the Dyno? I am interested in hearing about the Athena Kit once you get it installed.

Break-In was completed on the dyno. I will give it another hour of moderate abuse on the track and after that its full noise.

It will be back on the dyno next week for some base line HP numbers in stock trim.

Big Bore installed

I got the 290 big bore installed. Exhaust system is going on tonight and hopefully, weather pending, I'll get to break it in tomorrow. Took some pics for those of you who haven't had the opportunity to see the inside of a modern day high performance 4-stroke. Coincidentally, I was also installing a 95" big bore kit on the Harley at work and thought it was kind of a cool pic.

I tried to get some baseline HP numbers but couldn't get repeatable numbers with the knobby rear tire and didn't want to F around with putting a street tire on. My inductive RPM pick-up also struggled with the "coil on plug" system as I didn't have a low voltage pick up on hand. Dang technology.

Figured I would follow up on this thread. I had a so so season this summer on the bike. Bummed my knee up second round in the harescramble series and decided to just play ride for the summer. The 290cc kit rocks. It's just about the perfect amount of power, but I am going to try some different cams for next season in attempt to get some more over-rev out of it. The Yami has been bullet proof. 38.5 hours without any issues. It took me a long time to get the setup figured out to where I was happy but I love how the bike handles now. Corners way better than my kx250f ever did and feels super light and likes to be thrown around in the air :) Overall I'm happy with my choice to go back to blue, or white in this case.

I woke up today to find more SNOW on the ground. WTF, I was riding my BOB on Tueday in 65 degree weather. I had nothing better to do today so I gave my Bike a good once over to make sure she's ready to rip next time we get a nice day. New look for 2011. Also sent had factory connection do my suspension. Should be a fun summer.

Im not a 4 stroke guy but that 290 kit really makes a 250f much more fun to ride. A buddy of mine had a KTM 250xcf and did the 285 big bore kit and I actually had a lot of fun on that bike. Im a harescramble rider too and noticed a huge advantage over the stock 250f... lots more braap! very torquey for a 250f

I would agree the big bore is most noticable in the bottom end dept. I love the extra roll on grunt down low. Keeps you out of first gear in the woods and is great being able to hammer out whoop sections a gear higher on the MX track.

I used to race CR250s for years then went with the KTM 300xcw and never looked back! Awesome torque! Very linear power that just rolls on from idle. My buddies noticed me riding faster on the KTM and I wasnt working as hard... The CR made great power but its a motocross bike and I had to ride it like I was pissed off to make good speed in the woods but the KTM is so smooth (suspension and power) that I dont even have to think about it. Unfortunately I made the expert class and never raced a whole season (house, family,... and now jetskis :)
