Yeah seems like it. I probably won't be able to wrench on it for a few weeks though since I'm closing on my house & moving in soon.
And I've found some new-old stock items on eBay, but not many.
Can anyone confirm that the start / stop switch is the same thing for almost all Yamahas? There...
The stock one is clear and has no debris or dirt in it. I don't know how putting a different filter on there would change anything unless you're suggesting moving the filter to a different location than stock?
Passageways & bucket filter should be clear since that was checked when the carb was...
Well I ran it again today and the issue returned. Fiddling with the tether / stop switch got me going again but only in spurts. I was almost full speed when it cut once and nearly went over the handle bars, lol. I just don't understand because it ran so well last Wednesday. I'll try replacing...
The waterbox is easy to access, and a repair is easy enough. But can you guys link me to aftermarket waterboxes? I'd love to find one of those Factory Pipe boxes but obviously they don't make them anymore.
I don't think it's too big of a deal at the moment though. I'm not jumping any huge...
Compression sucks? I thought it was pretty good. The service manual says 134 hot:
So running premix will make the engine run colder?
If I get a pipe, I have to re-jet correct? I'm not going to mod it this summer, maybe over winter.
Alright, went out today (finally) and tested. I think the issue is solved *knock on wood*
It was suggested to me that my thermo switch might be the problem as well, so I simply removed it from the engine and zip tied it off elsewhere. After a few runs it didn't stall out. Then I went out on the...
The weather hasn't been great to get out and trouble shoot yet. Hopefully tomorrow.
A friend of mine suggested today that maybe there is an air leak from the intake after the carb. I'm going to investigate this too.
Here are some spark plug pics for the hell of it. Maybe only 40min on them:
Yeah I've seen used and even "new" parts on eBay for much less that dealership new. I'm always afraid of buying that used working part, only to have it fail the second I install it, lol.
It seems like everything sounds normal after it happens (starter, etc) the engine just doesn't catch and restart. But I don't think it's the oil pump because I seem to be consuming oil just fine and top it off when I go out.
Ruling out electrical would certainly save me some money though :)
As I read those pages it makes me think I need to make the low speed a bit more rich. When warm I'm always having to use the throttle to help it start. That, or fuel pressure might be a issue so I'll check that as well.
Well when warm it idles for a short time then cuts out too. And takes a few trigger pulls to get started again. I was thinking that at speed, once I let off the throttle and the engine tried to jump to idle it might be starved of fuel.
I'll try your method and see what happens.
Thanks for the offer, I'll let you know. The problem is that I can't really bench test the ski. I have to run it flat out for several minutes (5 or more) to replicate the stall. And if I can't get it started I need to be towed back in since the river has a current that would take me over the...
Haha what's up man! 100% stock. Previously owned by a doctor and it appears in great shape all around for being 20 years old... except for this issue.
If it can't get it running right, maybe I will take it out your way. I haven't seen any of these skis around my area. I have a hitch hauler for...
