def clean out the groove with a little bit of sandpaper, i use contact cement, nice coat in the groove and on the seal, warm em up with a heatgun and apply. leave the hood closed for a little bit so it gets a good bond.

make sure you have some spare hoods around

i started off in the same boat, got an 86 for 200 bucks, by the time i was done getting it the way i wanted, i would go back and kick myself in the nuts for spending the money. u have some time till summer, find a Yamaha!!!!! parts are way easier to come by and there are way more people on here...

make sure the flywheel is all the way down on the crank, check the stator to see where the timing is
