Those SS engines need compression and timing to get the most out of them. I did the 5 mil swap on mine and that along with compression and TL made a world of difference. It was a turd to begin with...at least for FW. I tried to make it something it wasn't made for. Worked but not easy.

If u foam it, I'd lay some small bore PVC pieces (in chine trough) cut to the inner length of tray and drill holes in it to allow water to channel into chines and out the drains. And before I'd ever do that, I'd use mcdoggy's advice and use polystyrene. U can pack that crap as tight as u want...

Plastic paint holds up well. I washed mine SC seat with soap/water and a final rub with rubbing alcohol then 3 coats of black krylon plastic spray.

Set ski on its tail and tape off backside. Tape off outside for a clean edge on the firewall. Fill the gap with 5200. And do backside as messy/neat as u wish. Viola.
