Yes, you need it. The only way to get rid of it is to run a carb with an intergal fuel pump like an sbn Mikuni. 44 sbn's make a huge improvement over stock.
Mix it with some stump out.....
But seriously won't the local salvage yard take it. What do they do with all of the fluids they take out of cars? I know there are some junk yards you can buy old gas from.
With a good hood/seal the boat can sit upside down for a pretty long while without much water getting in. But with a scupper it is a different story. You can always plug it up if you don't need it though.
I can def see how tubbie III's would help out. The 08's can be a little bit too easy to lay over. The tail tends to punch through the water more than slide. Now when I hop on an SXR from my 08 SJ the kawi feels slippery.
Skill or setup isn't the issue. Go ride both. From what I have found no matter how modded an older sj is it is still not going to be able to handle or hookup better than the new ones in stock form.
My prior boat was a pre 08 with tubbies and the handeling was no where close to that of my 2008. Tubbies grab in the corners where the new superjets kind of glide through the corners. The tracking is so much better too. Boats with tubbies tend to chine walk. Also if your running wot through chop...
There is nothing I can do on an old sj that I can't do better on my 08. Of course with the exception of sliding tricks like bull dogs. I would rather be able to rail corners than do that stuff any way. One of the best parts about the new sj is the setback pump. The hook up is just unreal. You...
Try playing with the nozzle angle first. Dropping it down really loosens up the back end. You can modify the stock bracket to adjust the angle. Or buy one

I doubt there...
There is still a bit more throw left on the nozzle. I check that by moving the nozzle from lock to lock and making sure the turn plate hits the stops. It's not an issue with this setup but if you were to cheat the steering to one side or run a newer cable and diff turn plate you will probably...
Aside from tricks, timed laps around some buoys is tons of fun. Especially if you have identical skis. Me & my buddy have 08 Sj's and will be running buoys Friday afternoon/evening on the DE in upper Bucks. Shoot me a pm if you want to join.
Just north of Stockton, NJ there are two ramps. The one further north is a good spot to ride and hang out. It does get crowded in the summer on the weekends. There is also a ramp at Neshaminy state park but you have to pay for it unless you want to launch from the beach.
This takes about 15 min to complete and completely changes the way the ski handles.
You will need:
Drill
center punch
M6*1.25 tap & drill bit
Hack saw or some kind of rotary tool with an abrasive wheel
Allen Wrench (I forget what size)
Lock tite
12mm socket
12mm wrench
10 mill...
