Carbon parts weigh less because it only takes a fraction of the material thickness to achieve the same strength as a fiberglass layup. If you use the same weight material you will end up at nearly the same weight part. This is why you don't really see much fiberglass in the standard carbon 5oz...
I would add in drains to the tray also. It is a fun project just keep at it. Here is a build thread that I did a while back that also has tray removed. I just did an all new carbon fiber tray and molded my own footholds into it. https://www.x-h2o.com/threads/keepin-it-square-done-for-now.144423/
This has been one of funnest things I have ever had the privilege of owning and building. Build thread here: https://www.x-h2o.com/threads/keepin-it-square-done-for-now.144423/ .
I am selling the entire package. Hitch rack, life vests, garage stand, beach stand, all spare parts and complete...
From when I did mine all the answers here are spot on. I did the blue foam up to the deck, sealed the bond line and all through fittings and then added drain plugs. The sides I did with polyester expando foam because I was molding in footholds. No matter what you do it will still leak into...
PM me yur number. I am definitely going out this wknd. If I stay in town session will start early to get the best riding. Loveland is an all day adventure
Got the ski dialed. Novi-tec nailed the carb build. Burned two tanks through it now and I couldn't be happier. For some reason I have yet to figure out the Imron paint did not get along with the primer and did not bond to it. Paint on the hull started coming off in sheets. Sucks but I...
Like a scalded dog. Did a shakedown on sun found that I needed a restrictor in fuel return line. Went back out yesterday and with a couple small adjustments it was awesome. Power on tap from idle to wfo. It is now a 753 with 33cc domes and 170psi compression. Might even go another size...
I cant go through the gory details. This sums it it though http://x-h2o.com/index.php?threads/am-i-boned-how-did-this-happen.152027/ PHP is going out of their way to get me on the water.
If you need to for cosmetic reasons I would clear coat it with a good two part enamel or epoxy. I have tried getting a finish coat with resin and it is more hassle than it is worth. Prep well before adding another layer of anything. If you just want a somewhat glassy look you can just brush...
Alright so stupid rookie mistake cost me my motor. While the cylinders are being bored up to 84mm waiting for new pistons and domes. I decided to finish off my hood.
Before this it was just a patched together shell. Bonded in some .125 kydex with six10 and shaped it with the heat gun. Next...
I made the mistake of following install instructions that came with my new ProX pistons. First time engine build. Did not place end gaps at pins but rather lined up with wrist pins.
http://x-h2o.com/index.php?threads/am-i-boned-how-did-this-happen.152027/
So I did call ProX this morn in the Netherlands about instructions that are included with their pistons. Got a bunch of sorry's which means they have probably already forgotten about my call. They are sister companies with Weisco. Might try them next
Just overnighted the cylinders to ya. Grooves are deep enough to hook with a fingernail. Lets just do what we gotta do. If I end up needing bigger domes no prob. Thanks for the help. Pistons are perfect. If anybody is looking for a set of 83mm with no rings give me a shout
PHP you guys rock
Actually it just slipped under it. In the middle of this conversation I got the motor out and torn down. And this is what I got. If it would not have let the ring in the groove at all I might have done more of a double take.
Thank you. As two stroke motors would not have an oil rail and only compression I put my rings in at 180deg lined up with wrist pin. Like I said, first time dealing with a two stroke and had no idea about the alignment pins. Lesson learned and price paid. Definitely wont happen again.
Everybody...
Pro-tec makes the Pro-X pistons at least thats what I thought. I could be wrong I need to check into that. I used the instructions that came in the box with the pistons. Not trying to blame anybody but myself for not knowing. As an aircraft mechanic it does not matter what parts you get or...
