A bad/weak Battery can also put excess strain on the Stator...
Battery might also have a bad Ground/Negative Post/Plate.
The MSD also runs off the Battery.

Yep, Lord Mounts are probably in a bind due to bad alignment. Align the Exhaust System Parts first without the Mounts and then see where the Pipe brackets end up. Also measure the actual space between the Pipe Brackets and the Cylinder Head, and the Block, and order your Mounts accordingly...
What Myself said plus the aged Fiberglass Waterbox develops Air Leaks via Rivets that have dropped their Mandrels. This gives it the perfect Air/Fuel mixture for a loud Boom just when you have your face right above the Waterbox.
That's why it's called a Blaster :D
Check for Air Leaks in the Engine, but also along the Exhaust System all the way to the Water Box. You can spray soapy water along the Exhaust System but not the running Engine.
Is your Water box made of Fiberglass? The FG Water boxes are riveted and, then after time, the mandrels fall out...
