Could be just like others said if could be fuel delivery it could be spark breaking up it could be a bad cdi or stator. Tighten the sparkplug gap a few thousand. Like what they run .028 of a inch? If so knock that down yo .020 and see if it runs better. If your cdi or stator is weak sometimes...

Check all wireing very carefully even behind the flywheel and case passthru

A look over the rings and pistons a light 3 stone hone only for some teeth. Clean it up champfer if needed and re test. Also make sure both rings still have the same spring.

Afaik R&D is the only company that makes a toploader performance intake grate for those boats. Usually pricy also.

I would get another compression tester reading before you pull your head. But if you already pulled it yes new gasket everytime.
