I made my own carbon chamber a few years back and its holding up great. When designing mine, I made a short carbon tube insert in the manifold end so that I could really get the coupler bands tight and not worry about crushing or distorting it. It sounds like if you are going to grind away any...
That looks like a good pump to start with. I'm pretty sure the dual stage pump will pull a few microns deeper vacuum than a single stage. Remember to change the oil out once in a while to keep the resin fumes from damaging the seals over time.

Nope. Epoxy doesn't break down the binder glue that holds the chopped mat together very well. You can use polyester and vinylester for that. The pump size just gets the air out quicker. If you get a smaller vacuum, you can push the air out or suck the air out with your mouth, then hook up the...
Hello, I'm one of the garage composite guys that started with patch work and went as far as building a few hulls and nic nacs. It's a lot of work, but is cool to create things from scratch and put them to use. As far as supplies, some guys have started out with a basic $89 Harbor freight...
You're doing a great job on the build. All that work almost makes me dread building another hull. o_O I always wondered how the intake scoop went together. I'm sure you'll have that thing looking like a million bucks when its done, but they sure don't do you any favors with that lay up...
Sounds like a sweet build. Speaking of Purple Power, Do Not use it to flush your vehicle cooling systems. It will eat the silicone off of the head gaskets and much worse. Yes, I did it to two separate vehicles that I no longer own. :(
After reading this thread and talking to a few buddies, I decided to give the keto a go around the middle of January. After attending the Daytona freeride and being completely ashamed of my lack of fitness, I knew I had to do something. So far I've lost 14lbs from 196 to 182 and feel the best...
You can do a lot of cool stuff with 80/20. We use it at work to build roof racks, bumper mounts, and trunk shelves for our autonoumous vehicles. I'm going to build a nice beach dolly when I get some free time.
Looks like you just glassed your part to that slab of cardboard. I always brush epoxy resin over the foam to make sort of an egg shell layer. After it cures you can apply filler and primer to get a nice finish before you wax and pull a part or make a mold. Acetone should do a fine...
That is an awesome video. I was able to stop by and visit with DK Jr before the holidays last year. Super friendly kid that is still very enthusiastic about jet skis. Surprised he doesn't ride much anymore. He showed me around and we discussed everything from the first BOB's to the newest...
I bought a unit from jb industries that was fairly affordable. Around $150 USD. I used it a few times, but after I switched to the heavier (non stretch)vac bags, I honestly haven't had a leak that I couldn't find right away without it. I use a more rigid hose for the vacuum side. The inlet...
Thanks Jeff. Just poking fun at you. You build some really cool stuff as well. Always pushing the creativity envelope.
