03 sxr rebuild questions

Ok guys. I've been re installing my engine as well as some other goodies. Have a few questions. I sent my engine out to the guys at group k for a sleeper kit.

1. I bought a stock pipe to swap my dry pipe out with, it came with a heat sensor attached to it. But I have no where to plug it into??? This is what comes out of my electrical box instead.

2. I swapped my impeller out with their recommended skat trak. And for some reason its about 1/8" from being properly seated, before I can get the bolts in.. I literally just took the stocker out so I am confused as to why this won't slide all the way back... (Yes this is my first large install so bear with me)

Thanks in advance.

the 03 skis were slightly different as far as the overheat sensors. the first pic you posted is the overheat sensor for the 03 model. The temp sensor that comes off the headpipe (white plug) connects to an external plug on the 04+ skis. You can delete the temp sensor inside the ebox if you prefer.

As far as the impeller issue, are you saying that the driveshaft is not seating completely in the pump, so you cant bolt the pump back into the hull because it is about 1/8" too far back? You might be able to skate by with loosening the motor mount bolts and sliding the motor all the way forward, then try mounting the pump in the hull. Sometimes with the rubber nose boot on the impeller it is tough to get a good feeling of when they bottom out in the prop. I personally do not use the nose boots impellers and have not noticed any difference without them. When you installed the skat trak impeller did it thread on all the way into the pump? Also, you might check that you have the correct o-ring in the nose of the prop.

You think I should put a brass fitting where the sensor is? (Which I'm okay with doing, especially because the whole setup is new) Or bypass it in the electrical box? If so, how? Lol

Yes exactly. I think if I loosened the motor mounts it would probably work but I would rather take the rubber nose off. I'm almost 100% positive it threaded all the way and the o ring looked very similar if not the same as stock.. Frustrating, I keep running into different set backs lol

To delete the heat sensor on the 03's you have to remove a piece inside the ebox IIRC. Don't quote me on that. I havent messed with an 03 in a while. Once you do that you can basically bypass the water lines.

As far as the prop goes, I would double check the prop to make sure it is seated in the pump correctly. Verify that you can seat the driveshaft in the pump correctly (full depth) and then bolt the pump in the hull. Situate the motor last after the pump and driveshaft are seated correctly.

Ok. I had the impeller off again tonight. I slid the stock impeller on the shaft and marked where it sat. Then I slid the skat trak, marked it. And there was the 1/8" I needed. When I took the O ring out of the skat impeller it went on EXACTLY as far as the stock. But as soon as I install the O ring it stops just enough not to allow me to bolt the pump up. I slid the engine as far up as I could but still didn't give me enough.. Has anyone else had this issue.

Make sure you don't have too much grease on your splines that go into the prop - I've had the grease prevent the driveshaft from going all the way in.

Yea I thought that too. But since I took both props and slid them on without the pump there was no way it could have built up any pressure or gotten forced into a crevice and not allowed it to go in. It's for sure the damn O ring

The O ring doesn't seat the same way as the stock.. I'm going to call skat trak tomorrow and see if there's anything they can recommend. It almost seems like it wasn't machined enough..

Got ahold of skat trak. For anyone who may have this problem in the future they told me just to toss the O ring or trim it.

Id be skeptical of just "tossing it" out..you want some kind of small dampener between the driveshaft and bottom of the prop. Ive used many skat trak props and have never encountered the issue you are having and have always ran the oring. Unless your particular oring is unusually thick i am not convinced that the oring is your issue. Do you have an oring that sits correct/flat in the bottom of the prop? Ive used a piece of 3/8" hose cut to about 1/8" high in the bottom of the prop when i havent had an oring and that has worked well for me.

I even tried the stock o ring in the new impeller with no luck. It's almost as if it's the wrong o ring or the impeller wasn't machines enough where it sits. I do plan on using some 3/8 tube to have some sort of dampening however. To

Not to hijack the thread, but I need a O ring for my Skat prop also (SXR). Is it a different O ring from the stock one? The stock one doesn't show up on the on-line parts breakdowns, what part # is it?

Can I just get on from an auto parts store?

Is the purpose of the O ring to seal something or just to be in there so the main shaft doesn't bottom out and hit the pump shaft?

its purpose is more along the lines of providing a "slight" soft surface between the driveshaft and prop. this (somewhat) cuts down on vibration noise from metal on metal contact. also helps keep driveshaft in place, so it cant walk forward to back.

I have a stock o ring and the skat o ring and they are almost identical. Are you having fitting issues too? Or just need an o ring?

Just need an O ring. Not sure if mine fell out and I didn't see it while I was taking the pump out or if it was destroyed. It's probably been in there a few years.
