Super Jet 08 sj hull mods for surf

I've always liked the 08 hull design but I have heard they don't slide well when ridden in the surf. I was just wondering if anyone has thought about filling in the depth of the chines? The 08's chines are deep, which is most likely why they grab so hard. I'm thinking if you fill them with two part foam and shape them to the same depth as a pre 08 hull you might get all the advantages the new hull design can offer and still have the slide for surf riding. If someone wanted to try this, but didn't want it permanent (In case they didn't like it) they could do so easily by shaping the foam and painting resin on the raw foam (No cloth) and then go out and ride it and see how it handles, That will be strong enough for a few rides which would be long enough to decide whether you should make it a permanent or not. The foam could be removed fairly easily if it handled poorly also. Any one try this before?

I have a 08, that seems like a project and a half. I'd rather find a way to put more throw on the nozzle to overcome it.. Seems alot easier so you can get best of both worlds. A bit background of myself, I have never ridden a pre-08 and im just learning the basic tricks. So idk if my opinion would even be valid, but I think i'd rather try to master the hull than change it.

Right now im running shmity1's cable set up to run a 4.25" throw cable on the stock fx1 handlepole. I am using a cold fusion turn plate and it does give me some more throw. There is still another inch of throw I can get off the nozzle and I dont have too much trouble getting it to slide out.

im not sure, but from what i hear running a stock, none at all, or very mild intake grate and putting a pre08 steering cable (with the mods for throw on the nozzle) fixes it enough to forget about it being a problem. you would be better off taking an inch or two off of the back than shaving the chines, as long as it turns like a ninja you can break the tail loose ez.

Why would it be a difficult project?, and I didn't say shaving the chines, I suggested filling them, but I guess I didn't explain my idea very well. I meant to fill the deep voids on either side between the chines and the flat bottom section of the hull. All you'd have to do would be to roll the ski upside down, pour some two part foam the length of the chines in the low part between the chines and the flat bottom section of the ski on either side from say the rear to 2/3 the way up and when it sets shape it similar to a pre 08 hull. If it improved 08 handling in the surf I can easily see Blowsion making a glue in insert for this.

Last year I ran the shmity1 cable setup, protec +20mm nozzle, d cut stock plate, and stock intake grate. I ride 95% surf. Had a hard time getting it to slide when I wanted to. This year I modified the protec nozzle for even more throw and added blowsion destroyer tubbies. Ill let you know this week how that turns out.

You could try the foam idea. Im sure you will be the first though. The rear chines definitely help keep the rear planted.

I have the extra tubbies on my 08 and if you can get your weight forward enough for them to grab, the tail will slide. It definitely takes some extra effort compared to the pre 08, but not much.

here's my set up and I love it in surf:

08 hull -2.5" with trimmed rails
Tubby destroyers
R&D intake grate
OEM ride plate - cut flat to the shortened hull
pre08 steering cable
OEM pump with 13/15 solas
bored reduction nozzle to 85mm

loose when I want it do be, and carves when I want it to carve

I never messed with the chines... didn't see the need

also, i run a -6" pole to keep my weight forward... and I don't use my footholds, I use surf straps

also filling the underside of the rails in the rear 10-15 inches (gradually) will loosen it up and can easily be made to be removeable. think blowsion sold these for a while but they are super easy to make too. try running stock intake grate again
