08+ SJ Steering Adapter For More Throw

Has anyone used an adapter like Wamiltons offers on their 08+ SJ with any success?

Pros, Cons? (aside from the price being high)

It sounds pretty straight forward although I haven't been able to find any reviews on it. I broke my cable recently and I'm looking to see if now is a good time to make a change.

Here is my current steering setup

I have used something like it. A 96-07 is the way to go to get more throw, a great upgrade for any 08+ hull

I've always made a bracket using the wave raider value hold down to relocate the cable and use 96-07 cable. Kinda like that one, but seeing this makes me kick myself for spending the time to fabricate something I could buy. Imo this is the single best mod to the 08+ sj. Instantly changes turning radius from crew cab dually to mini cooper. Add a good turn plate and your set.

Are you saying the turn plate currently on my ski is not a good one?

All this sounds positive. Going off the picture, I can not see how this bolts right up and works. Maybe I will call Wamiltons tomorrow and inquire. Correct me if I'm wrong though - aren't steering cables like $80? Why is the kit so pricey? That bracket is $120?

I've had my first ski for about a week so forgive my ignorance.

I'm in the same boat, I called Wamiltons and inquired about just the bracket and he wanted $125 , just for the bracket! @ScottS just made me a bracket for the 96-07 steering cable on the factory 08 handle pole. He cut the stock steering plate and tapped new holes to use straight bars. Works great!

I used the schmitty mod bracket on mine and it worked just fine. I think if you buy his relocation bracket its $30

Sorry doesn't look at the pic of your ski. Ada turn plate is good. Was really just speaking in general about the 08+ skis.

Keep in mind this is also a great mod for yamahas little step child the fx1. Which had very similar steering ratio to the 08+.

This is great! Thanks for the pics - that really makes is clear how it functions. I can't believe nobody else makes that bracket! I may try to make it myself. I wonder where I could get the indented U-strap? The rest looks fairly simple.

If you can find one reasonably priced, get it! Back in 09, I made my own and used a '95 oem cable, worked well. Figuring it out, making a sample, then the real thing, took me about 15 hours. Never again!

I am wondering the same thing the bracket doesn't look terribly hard to make but where to get the u-bracket?

It looks like you could mount it wherever you need it. Just not sure if the cable fits in there or not.
