So with a 07 and older cable and making or buying a bracket for the 08 pole do I still need to have an extension bracket or can I use stock mounting locations on turn plate ?
I think you can use the stock mounting locations if the bracket is far enough into the pole.. I think thats the point of it, if u dont use an a/m bracket you have to modify where it connects to the steering.. going through the same problem rn

You cannot just add an adapter, or just change the cable to an earlier version....
all 08 - later SJ's (2-stoke and 4 stroke) have slow lazy steering.
The adapter on the exit nozzle IMO is just a waist. You cannot increase the steer ratio without changing the steer stop. To make a difference, you need to drastically change the ratio, and doing so the cable will now bottom out before the plate hits the steer stop. This will damage your cable. If the cable doesn't bottom out with the steer nozzle adapter, then the change was very minimal and IMO not worth doing.
If you change to an earlier cable, and adapt to mount above, you still need to change out the steer system to again increase the steer ratio. The 07- older cables do have more throw but your steering will still be slow and lazy unless you swap everything.
We have steer systems developed for specific years. These drastically increase steer ratio, improve handling and will work with the stock pole, and stock cable;
