08 sj

for those of you that have riden a 2008 superjet,do you think it's worthwhile getting one or should i hold on to my 2004?
i will do the same mods to the 08 that are on the 04(footholds,b-pipe,760cc,dual 48mm,msd enhancer, alloy flywheel, xft hood and pole, umi etc..)
so it will run the same
i'm more concerned about the handling of the boat in freeride/freestyle.
thanks.

I have never ridden a pre '08 with tubbies but the '08 handles very nice. The steering sucks though so it was tough to get a feel for the ski as a whole.

have not ridden one set up for freestyle, only rode YamaCat's 08 in stock form. As far as a race boat I will stick with my SXR. If surf racing only, I probably would pick the SJ due to the fact that I do prefer a SJ for surf races.

i have been thinking about one myself
saw them at the finals
i must say, Wammer has some awesome looking graphics on his setups now

i didn't see that much of a difference, other than it looked like it has tubbies built in
i know the pump is set back and all

i haven't ridden one, so i can't really compare
but then again, my setup is no where near stock either

hmm..... I've really enjoyed my 08' however I'm not sure I would ditch your 04' for one. Really defends on your riding preferences.

They are very different skis. Even my Tubbied 05' handled differently from it.

Any ski can always use a little more power.

it really depends on your riding style and where you ride...for me i would never get one because it dosnt suit my style of surfriding..its an awsome ski but there is no way i could do the same type of turns in the surf that i can do on my pre 08.(like the picture in my avatar)..ive ridden ones that are built to the hilt for surfriding and you can not get the same "looseness" that you need to break it free under the lip....for holding a line in big surf i think it would be awesome too. TC and i rode some huge hollow waves and i was sliping all over the place going down the face and his ski (08) was just planted..having said that if you wernt as interested in actual wave riding performance like i am then id say go for it...but if you ride "freestyle" and dont really go fast and are just more interested in tricks i would say its not worth it...but if you like carving it up in the lake and doing freestyle than it does handle "better" you could say but i still prefer the squirlyness of my ski...its more fun for me

Good point and good review.

I checked out all the new snowboards last night and this is why there are soooo many. It comes down to personal style and feel. Ride one and decide for yourself. The 08 is the closest ski I have ever ridden that resembles the way I like to snowboard. For me I love it, but that is just me.

i agree with andrew on this. I ride surf only and love looseness of my 05 and 00 sj's. Im not sure if i should keep mine and change the pole, steering cable, add a d cut ride plate, and tubbie 3's and hope that those mods will make it break free alittle easier or fill in the chine's so there not as deep. Maybe i should just sell it or trade for an older one and some money before i hack it up only a 1/4 tank of fuel through it.
