When I lifted, I never used protein shakes. I just ate Cheeseburgers and drank chocolate milk. 400lb squat, 235 bench, clean was around 300.

protein's a gimmick!! Body Builders just need calories to power all that muscle, ask one. They live off of all-you-can-eat buffets and such.

that's the difference between body builders and weight lifters. body building is sculpting the body to look good, not just moving heavy iron for bragging rights. side note to all: if you don't care what you look like, go to buffets, eat cheese burgers and drink choc milk Lol.
I've got some unflavored isolate that i'm going to be mixing with vodka and orange juice to make it a complete nonfat meal : )=

To an extent.. It definitely helps in my opinion. A couple years ago i was working out once a day, eating big meals 3 times a day, and taking protein shakes about twice a day. I ate fairly clean and i put on 18lbs in about 3 months.

Yah this is entirely wrong lol. You just dirty bulk and probably had horrible lipids. True though that...protein powder isn't necessary. It's a convenience though for sure.

Did you read what I wrote? I weight lifted. Body Builders I've talked to, yes Body Builders said they lived at Buffets. I have no idea what they ate, but there are plenty of high protein foods available at buffets. I'd go for the Roast Beef.

Body building is about building muscle. To maintain muscle mass you need calories. To build muscle you need protein.

Yes sir I did. You're trying to simplify bodybuilding as if its just "EAT CALORIES AND LIFT AND YOU WILL BE A BODYBUILDER".

You're describing a diet for a powerlifter, not a bodybuilder. And as to your "bodybuilders I talked to", yes you can get a little sloppy on your diet by using tren or something.

You should have used protein powder, you would have had a 500lb squat and 400lb bench. Bodybuilding is about having the most muscle with the least amount of bodyfat. Only all you can eat buffet I ever did was the round table salad bar using vinegar as salad dressing. Another good option is egg whites at costco. You can get 6 60gr egg white cartons ready to drink.

my point exactly. you weight lifted just to improve your numbers. in that case, eat like a pig and eat any crap that you want.
I've had a few buffets. once I ate just about nothing but the meat, non stop, for about an hour. I think it was the most I ever ate!
calories don't maintain muscle mass. continuously lifting heavy weights maintains muscle or it goes away from lack of use.
excess calories turn into fat, period. a positive nitrogen balance is required to build muscle.
beef is one of the lower quality proteins according to the protein efficiency rating, 70 I think. turkey, chicken, fish are much higher 77-90.milk and egg are best.
I wonder if human meat is 100? I'd be one of the fat ones being rescued from the donner party

If anyone else is interested in finding protein deals, go on the www.slickdeals.net "hot deals forum" and search protein. I don't ever order from myprotein.com but another brand I picked up 16 lbs of dank protein for $50. So far...I havent used much. So it's probably a lifetime supply apparently. I personally only buy Optimum Nutrition because it's (IMO) the best. Well, ISOPURE is probably the best but that costs $$.
