1200 Blaster Build

There’s nothing wrong with the 1200 build, it makes a Great Lake warrior blaster for sure. It’s easy, comes with good carbs, and for those who care, it’s yamaha to yamaha.

The Kawi is lighter, sits lower in the hull, pipes is infinitely easier to work with and mod, revs higher, makes more power and when propped right, leaves harder.

Again, nothing ‘wrong’ with the Yamaha 1200 set up, but there is a reason why every GP blaster on the line runs a kawi. Plus, if you decide down the line that you want to go even faster, the kawi has far better port design and responds to mods way better.

Oh no I agree it is truly hard to find definite answers between them both only was leaning toward the gp since obviously I had it and would be roughly the same price engine for engine but the gp would be a fresh reman is all. It will mainly be a lake and river “flatwater” ski but will occasionally take trips to the real surf. Yeah I do agree the gp pipe does suck to work around for sure I have 2 gp1200 skis currently which was another thing I was leaning toward seeing as every part would be interchangeable between skis. So dollar for dollar the kawi would be a more potent and powerful engine? I did rebuild mine just recently and was amazed at how sloppy the port timing seemed in the jug.

Thanks again for the info in advance

Have you owned and or rode both skis?

Ive ridden 1200 blasters and they are nice. But, I come from a racing background and have had the opportunity to build and ride some of the nices race blaster on Earth. IMO, the Kawi is a better motor. Ask guys like Tim Judge and Webster, they all choose the Kawi motor for triple builds.

Having said that, if you are building a lake warrior ski and have the gp 1200 parts, definitely go that route. You will be more than happy.

Thanks man I’m still in the air since I have a pretty hopped up 701 now but I’m considering prices still

Well for reference, I used to race 8mm stroker powervalve blasters with every bell and whistle you could throw at them and was lucky enough to win a couple of National Titles. I loved my Judge blasters, but they were race gas, fully built and on the ragged edge in a lightweight hull. A good running open spec kawi blaster (basically timing advance, dried out pipe, pump gas compression and carbs) is just as fast in a stock hull. I’m talking race fast, meaning, it has to leave the line good and still have some decent top end.

Hi Scottie,
Mike from Brisbane, Australia.

Im currently building a WB2 with a Yamaha 1100cc. This will be just a mock and ride ski for the rest of our summer, then a full strip down in the winter.
Do you have any of the following info?
Car

jet setting for seal level (44's)
Prop size and pitch
Any info or links will be appreciated
Cheers,
Mike
