it works even better if you grind the shoe to match or come as close as you can to the new 144 wear ring.

did you remove the motor and align your pump?

Special fx the reason for the kawi tank it just fits better. For this build i used a superjet b pipe. Tom the pump and motor are aligned and shimmed. Started it up yesterday and it sounds really snappy. hope it rides like it sounds. Hope the weather is good this weekend so i could tune it.

motor is a 61x cases ported
dual stage carbon reeds
61x cylinder ported and bored to 760 84mm
dual r&d intake manifold
dual 44s
timing advanced 3deg

welding new tab extensions to the mounts instead of cutting and re welding is one of the best ideas i have seen in a long long time!!

thats my plan now!!! sick sick idea brotha!! maybe its an older idea...but its the first time i saw it..

I having trouble getting my plate to fit when I did the yamaha 144 swap on mine, any tips?
Since the 144mm pump is 1" larger overall in O.D., it will interfere with the ride plate if installed properly. (using the existing FX drive line angle, on a retrofit. the kawi pump has a smaller O.D. and doesn't have that issue).

Id make a rideplate, or you have to cut a decent size hole in the ride plate.
That's what I ended up doing to have about 3/8" clearance, with a thick carbon plate.

I'd say it's best to pull a mold off of an existing plate. I used a pro-tec plate. It's not fancy, but is functional and strong, and now that I have a mold, I can pull a couple more if I break one or want to have a short and a long plate or add skegs to one. If you go that route, make sure the plate you use to pull your mold from is flat. Two of the three pro-tec plates I've had were out of flat by 1/4 inch at the rear of the plate.

Nozzle angle played a big part in high speed handling. Ensuring the ride plate, intake grate, and pump shoe are all true, will also improve the high speed handling.

What's the best way to go about making a plate?
 
Did you use the stock pump shoe? i see someone asked above but i did not see the question answered. thanks ahead of time

you can use the stock shoe and I believe he did at the time. you can carefully remove your stock 122mm fx1/wr3 shoe and fill the backside with epoxy then have it opened up as far as you can to match up to the 144 pump. OR just buy a 144 shoe but you will need to cut into the hull a bit.. ( some fx tunnels are more forgiving than others..) i'll post a pic of a modded stock 122 mm shoe.

Crazy to see this old thread brought up again. Blitz is my old man, but sadly we lost him this past December. RIP.

The 2 fx-1's in this thread belong to my brother and I. We're the ones in the Daytona pics and my bro is in the video posted early in this thread.

Both skis originally had the stock 122mm pump shoe, I recently rebuilt my ski and swapped mine out with the 144 shoe. The skis ran great with the 122 shoe and the only reason I swapped mine out was because I got a free pump shoe and my ski was completely torn down already.

Would I do it again? Nope. While the ski definitely feels a little more powerful with the bigger pump shoe I don't think it was worth all the hours grinding and the fiberglass work on the pump tunnel. *also additional grinding to the rideate.

if I were to do it again I would just modify the 122 shoe to get the opening as large as possible and skip the fiberglass work and grinding.

That's exactly what I'm doing, grinding out the stock one to about 140 and I think it should work great.
