I will try to get pictures of what I did for the pump up soon. It was no easy task, but once you get it properly aligned and fitted, the glassing work is easy. Will have more on this later, currently busy studying for finals. Feel free to pm me if you have any urgent questions

So I decided to take a little break from the glasswork side of the job and have some fun with paint. Here's what I did to my pump and motor mounts. Started by prepping the surfaces, then primed. Put down a metallic textured basecoat, then an anodized blue, and finished it with two coats of clear. I am very happy with how they turned out, and am looking forward to doing some other parts down the road. Oh and I picked up the rattle cans at auto zone in case anyone wanted to do something similar.

Also you can see in one of the pictures that I installed my new 9/15 hooker :wiggle:

Well time flies when you're busy! I finally set aside a weekend and decide to hammer out the carbon work. Took about 25 hours total with all the cutting, measuring, taping and so on. Big thanks to FlashFx for some really helpful tips. For my first time working with carbon, I think it worked out better than expected. So here's what I did: 1) Ordered 3 yards of 5.5oz 2x2 twill carbon/Kevlar blue hybrid, 2) Taped off area where the carbon would go so I could get a template, 3) Removed the tape and laid it on 17oz biax to cut out the glass, 4) Used the cut out glass piece as my template for the carbon (so that it wouldn't stick to the carbon and disturb the weave like the tape) 5) Sprayed a small amount of temporary hold fabric adhesive around the outside edge of the carbon before I cut (this helped INCREDIBLY) 6) Sanded and prepped side, then wet out the side of the hull where the carbon was going. I started in the tray area first because I knew it wouldn't be seen 7) Did the bottom of the engine bay next so that I could go a couple inches up on either side with the carbon 8) After I placed the carbon in and moved it into position (which is easier to move around than expected), I put a thin layer of resin on top. Let it dry and finally 9) Clear coated the engine bay to hopefully give it a gloss look. After it was all said and done, I was very pleased. Anything helps, but I'm not sure how much one layer of 5.5oz will help. I would imagine that weight would require mulitple layers to be effective. Maybe I'm wrong.

Dig the write up. I could used that when laying up the carbon on the RN tray.

I did a layer of 17oz glass underneath the layer of carbon. That stuff is pretty thick so I'm hoping that will be the main support...In the end, it was mostly for looks. I didn't want to add too much weight so I went with only one layer of glass and one of carbon. But imo, it still feels pretty strong when I push on the sides. Doesn't flex at all now, before I started it definitely flexed some. But then again, I failed to mention that I epoxied a 1/2 inch aluminum rod under each side of the hood lip and glassed it in. That helped a TON.

Thanks for putting those up for me dave! I haven't posted on this build thread in quite awhile I ended up getting it ready to ride for last summer but was only able to ride it for about an hour. The pump and intake made a huge difference with a lot more hookup, and the tubbies helped to make it turn 10x better and sharper. Still haven't gotten used to it but I decided to take it apart this winter to fix two broken motor mount bolts, put my b pipe on and put a quality paint job on it. Really want to say thank you to Dave and Jacob for helping me get it all prepped and painted it turned out awesome. Also want to thank my brother for spending some long nights sanding it with me. Will be putting it all together this week hopefully to start tuning this weekend and then get it all turfed next week. Let me know what you guys think!
