148 setback torrent pump question

So I'm putting my prop on, when I put the stepped washer on then the prop on and tighten down it seems as if the OEM stepped washer is making contact with the pump seal making it hard to spin. Any one put one of these together?

I got mine used fully assembled with no washer and it's been working great. Not sure if this is right or wrong but I haven't had any problems.

Maybe your seals were not installed correctly and not all the way down. All yamaha based pumps will work with the oem impeller washer.

cut the rubber off the outside of the washer. Or use regular thin washer spacers. I didnt even have to run a washer behind my impeller.
With my cut back prop I was told to run a curtain mm washer which I have but not sure if that was also with the OEM washer or not.

all that matters is that when you tighten the impeller down, it spins freely.
nothing should drag, it should spin smooth.

if it doesn't spin at all, add more washers.

Try it with no washer, tighten it and see if it spins. Then try it with a thin impeller washer. it takes minutes to swap that around.

The prop washer serves 2 functions.
a) shield/seal the pump bearing with the vulcanized rubber
b) space the prop

If you are using a new OEM Yamaha Rubber/SS washer they have serrated rings on the side. They will drag on all pumps once the prop is tightened. This is normal, if it spins free before the washer is installed and they tight after youre fine as long as the prop isnt hitting anything. The OEM washer is designed to drag and wear in to fit, it acts as a sand depris shield for the seals. I always cut my props back and run the stock washer. As long as you put the washer on the correct direction.
