I'm completely new to stand ups. Just started riding at the end of last season. When I picked up my FX1. It's a pretty mint '05. I love the ski - I have been told to put this one away (because it's so clean) and buy something else to ride.. do you guys subscribe to that? I just want to ride it and try to take care of it. Probably leave it stock?

I got a great idea. Buy my minty FX1 then ride one and save the other. That has to be the cleanest FX1 I have ever seen. What ever you do..Do Not Mod that FX1!!! Yours is Mintyer than mine. Where did you get it? The guy I got mine from had it in his basement for a long time. Selling mine for $2k no motor.

That's what I'm thinking too. No mods - just learn, ride and have fun... The only thing that makes me a little nervous is that I will be using it in TN and OHIO. Transporting regularly on a hitch carrier. Has anyone heard of a good towable cover for the FX1 like the make for the newer couch skis?

Don't use a cover. I bought one for my 2013 superjet and after one trip I took it off and saw that the wind had whipped the cover against the ski so much it scratched the hell out of it. My ski is black though so surface scratches show up more. Now I only use my cover for storage, not transport. Just my two cents.
Maybe add some sort of plate to the bottom of your carrier to minimize the rocks that hit it during your drive?

Just get a custom cover made out of quality material and you will be fine. Lots of times people use storage covers as a travel cover.

I was using an OEM Yamaha cover. They don't get much more expensive than that...Maybe someone makes one with a microfiber liner?

I think when I go long distance, I will just put it in the back. The wife and kids will just have to pack less crap! Problem solved...

So just a small update - I have been riding / learning to ride this season and I am absolutely hooked. I am going to be very careful and remove the stock bars and add a shorter turn plate and wider bars. That's it for now. The stock bars are just so damn narrow... I can't imagine a simple bolt on mod like that hurting value as long as I keep the original parts? Having a ton of fun with the ski - I'm hooked.
