18v impact ft lbs and flywheel Q

so if my milwaukee 1/4 impact driver has 1,400 in-lbs of torque i would assume it has 116.6 ft lbs of torque (1,400/12=116.6)(For some reason i find it hard to beleave that a 1/4 impact has over 100 ft lbs.) so would that be enough to tighten the flywheel down? ive heard fly wheels are torqued to like 60 ft lbs. but also been told to just rattle it on with a good impact. At what point does a impact reach its maximum torque? i know to use locktight but what color and do i let it dry first and then thread in the bolt or thread it in right after i apply locktight to the threads:1zhelp:

Never ever use an impact to tighten any bolt.

You use a impact to remove the flywheel, if you have to. Or a steering wheel puller. Use a torque wrench to put it back on.

I use my matco with red or yellow loctite. Make sure your battery is 90% or better. The batt. Life on those guns isn't very accurate compared to the torque value. Ex: if the battery is 50% the torque value isnt 50% of the rated torque value. It is also hard to tell your batt. Life by the clutch on the gun. My matco has a batt. Gauge on it. But if you have any doubt, put a torque wrench on it!!!

Apply loctite, install bolt with wet loctite, allow cure time before running engine. Impact gun or no impact gun.

Ok, so is 60ft lbs an accurate torque for the bolt and how should I keep the crank from turning

50 ft lb but I usually go 55, I use the rope trick in the front cylinder that the piston is coming up.

Hold the flywheel with a flywheel wrench. No sence in damaging a piston, or crank with the rope.

I use the rope trick. Good luck bending a rod or piston with 51 ft lbs, which Im pretty sure I read in a yami manual or pdf. This is assuming your doing it the right way with a torque wrench.

just get the flywheel lock tool that Cold Fusion makes and be done with it. You'll use it again if you ever need to remove the engine coupler too.

Agreed, impact on the flywheel bolt is asking for trouble. The Cold Fusion tool is worth its weight. One of the best tools I have bought ! I have used it many times and it is well worth every penny I paid for it.

Use torque wrench and Cold Fusion flywheel lock.

Yamaha spec is 47 ft. lbs. for oem flywheel. Higher torques are usually for a/m aluminum hubbed flywheels like TBM.
