1980’s Superjet?

So I haven’t forgotten about this and yes it’s still been 20 years since I have ridden a superjet even though I own 2 now.

Believe it or not it’s still raining and cold here in drought stricken California.

Maybe Sunday I’ll say screw it and throw on the wetsuit and ride in the rain.

In the meantime I picked up a WR 3 GP for stupid cheap and striped it the 701.

I still want to try the 650 first.

Cylinder and head are at Group K for fresh bore and head mill.

OEM crank looks awesome so new OEM seals.

And I am making my 9 yo son build it since it will be his ski eventually.

Well, thought I would give a little update here. Finally got to try the 650 on Sunday and considering it’s been 20 years since I was on a standup it was just like yesterday.

Despite all the negative comments on the 650 it really surprised me. Yes, of course it needs more power but I ran it for a good 3 hours and was smiling and laughing the entire time. It has enough power to pull you out of turns and just have a blast. It was very stable and absolutely perfect for a beginner or a loaner. The little 650 really surprised me and was just plain fun.

The power was very smooth and tame and after 5 minutes my son stood up and didn’t want to stop.

So the final verdict is the 80’s superjet was a great purchase and the 650 is going to stay in it. The fresh 701 will stay on the shelf until my cousin and son get more tray time to actually need more power.

In my opinion the SN was everything everyone talked about, stable, turns good, silly fun but the power is just fine for a novice. I would say power is adequate, nothing more or less.

Great update. Glad the ski was reliable and a blast. Your son is already hooked.

What lake are you riding on? It's finally warm enough here in norcal and I've been out the last few weekends as well. Lake season is here!

Lake Nacimento. It was raining in the morning then windy and cold when we went out, probably 62 degrees. The lake was absolutely dead and you would have never known it was a holiday weekend. It was actually perfect since my son stayed in the large 5 mph area and there were no boats around.

We had similar weather up here. It was misting and cloudy until around 2pm but then decent in the afternoon once it was sunny blue skies. Very quiet for a 3 day holiday weekend.

I used to go to Naci regularly but haven't been in several years.
